***I would like to share with all my friends and family is that Rip Currents are a REAL thing. Thinking back I remember hearing about them growing up but never knew what to look for or how it can impact you just enjoying the beach in waist deep water.***

--> I thought I was walking out to a sandbar… I even remember spotting where I was gonna go and telling my wife I’m gonna wade through these rough waves and get out to the sandbar where it’s calmer. It WASN’T a sandbar it was a rip current.

The rip currents can pull the sediment out to form a sand bar further out and in doing so churn up sand… you may think the sand bar is closer than it is. (And in my experience I was in neck deep water bouncing on my toes trying get out to the sandbar… and then when I thought I reached where the sandbar should have been…there was a drop off where the rip current was churning up the sand)

Many of you may have heard or seen that they say not to try and swim against it. And that is CORRECT. But when in an unexpected Rip Current, PANIC can set in. And let’s be honest if this isn’t something you have experienced before you more than likely will forget that you should just either let the current DRAG you out further until it releases you or if possible begin swimming parallel along the shoreline to get out of the current.

My POINT I would like to make and share is that IF WE CAN IDENTIFY the Rip Current before… you can avoid them when possible. I have attached pictures below that may help you or someone you know identify them when at the beach.

Most times you can identify them (Rip Currents) if you are standing on the shore line and you see your typical waves and in between them it looks calm almost like no waves…
