⚖️ Cape Coral Councilwoman Rachel Kaduk heads to court today on her DUI case.

The city councilwoman was arrested in December and charged with driving under the influence and refusing a breathalyzer test. Body camera footage captured her performing field sobriety tests before officers handcuffed her and transported her to Cape Coral police headquarters, then the Lee County jail.

Kaduk has pleaded not guilty and completed DUI school. Her trial is scheduled for 1 p.m. today.

This latest chapter comes as many Cape Coral residents continue to express frustration with their elected officials.

What does this say about the standards we should expect from our local leaders, and what changes would you like to see in how Cape Coral holds its council members accountable?

🚨 Big Supreme Court Win for Stronger Immigration Enforcement

The Supreme Court just handed the Trump administration a major victory Tuesday in a key immigration case. In a 6-3 ruling, the justices said federal border officials can treat green card holders facing criminal allegations as applicants for admission when they return from overseas travel.

The case involves Muk Choi Lau, a Chinese national who became a lawful permanent resident in 2007. Charged with trademark counterfeiting in New Jersey back in 2012, who was paroled when he attempted to return to the U.S. via JFK airport.

Justice Clarence Thomas, writing for the majority, made it clear: nothing in the Immigration and Nationality Act requires border officers to have “clear and convincing evidence” before making these quick calls at the port of entry. Green card holders aren’t automatically shielded from scrutiny if they’re facing crimes that could lead to removal.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented, joined by Sotomayor and Kagan, warning the ruling gives the government a “massive blank check” to downgrade a green card holder’s status.

This strengthens the administration’s push to enforce our laws and remove criminal offenders.

How do we balance protections for legal residents while keeping criminals out? How should we approach these reentry cases moving forward?

Concerns are mounting over the proposed homestead exemption changes headed to the November 3 ballot.

The Legislature just put the measure before voters. If it passes with 60% support, primary homeowners would see the exemption rise to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, with future increases tied to the Consumer Price Index. Gov. DeSantis and supporters call it major tax relief.

But local officials are sounding alarms. Pasco County Tax Collector Mike Fasano told The Bond Buyer he’s “quite concerned” about the impact on outstanding municipal bonds. Here in Lee County, Property Appraiser Matt Caldwell told a local news outlet, a rapid rollout could cause real pain and suggested phasing it in over the next decade instead.

Even the benefit numbers are being challenged. A UBS Wealth Management analysis reported by Yahoo Finance notes that state data shows only about 28% of homesteaded properties are valued at $250k or less, well short of some of the broader relief projections.

With local leaders raising red flags on bond stability and independent reviews questioning the scale of the promised relief, what questions or concerns do you have about how this will actually play out for Southwest Florida homeowners and our communities?

The City of Naples denies the 2027 permit for "Cars on 5th" after the event has been cleanly run for over 20 years, citing "safety" after turnout was double the expected 17,000 visitors.

What do you say to the Naples City Council over the denial of next year's event?

Research from real estate data analytics firm PGM found that Florida gained only about 800 residents age 65 and older last year. Nearly as many seniors moved out of the state as moved in, marking a significant shift from previous migration trends.

With affordability front and center; rising insurance rates, utility costs, and severe weather are driving some retirees out of Florida.

Would you ever leave SWFL, and where would you move to?

Young adults who can serve in the military at 18 deserve the same self-defense protections as the rest of us. The Fourth District Court of Appeal just struck down the state’s ban on concealed carry for law-abiding 18-20 year olds.

What steps should young Floridians take to responsibly exercise their Second Amendment rights?
