After more than three months of renovations, the Fort Stockton Walmart officially reopened its doors Friday morning with a grand ceremony that brought together store associates, community members, and local leaders in celebration of a revitalized space that reflects both modern convenience and hometown pride.
The event, held at 9 a.m. on July 25th, began with a prayer led by Alden Leyva, who spoke about the purpose of the blessing—to ensure the day would bring joy, unity, and gratitude. As the sun rose over the fresh façade of the updated store, Walmart associates Gilbert and Gary led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance, setting the tone for a ceremony filled with appreciation and renewed spirit.
Attendees included a broad spectrum of Fort Stockton’s community: store associates and their families, the newly crowned Miss Fort Stockton, Michaela Davis, Fort Stockton Mayor Paul Casias, Pecos County EMS, Fort Stockton Police Department, Pecos County Sheriff's Office, Fort Stockton Volunteer Fire Department, representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, and loyal Walmart shoppers. Former store manager trainee Cindy led a signature Walmart cheer, energizing the crowd and spotlighting the company’s focus on teamwork and positivity.
The highlight of the morning was a ribbon cutting at the store’s front entrance, symbolizing the completion of an ambitious remodel that began in April. The renovations brought new technology, a reimagined layout, and expanded departments—all designed with customer experience in mind. Among the most praised updates was the transformation of the apparel section, now featuring department-store-style displays that elevate the shopping atmosphere.
“Our goal was not just to change how the store looks, but to improve how it feels to shop here,” said Randy Mann, Fort Stockton’s Walmart store manager, who has been with the company since 2004. “We listened to our customers, and what we’ve created is a more open, efficient, and welcoming experience.”
The upgraded store now boasts wider aisles, “wow displays,” and a more modern aesthetic throughout, while still preserving the local feel that has made it a favorite among residents and travelers alike. Marketing Manager Troy Ware called the Fort Stockton remodel “one of the smoothest” projects he’s been a part of, crediting the professionalism and dedication of the associates, contractors, and the Rex team—including Christopher Burke, Allen, Jessica, Kenneth, Sean, and Carlos.
Behind the polished finishes and grand gestures was a strong sense of gratitude for the people who made the renovation possible. Randy Mann was recognized not only for his leadership over the last 21 years, but for the personal sacrifices made by his family during the intense remodel schedule. Miss Tish, the Marketing People Partner, gave heartfelt thanks to Randy’s wife Christina and daughter Bella, acknowledging the strain and support that came with the job.
In a moment of reflection and celebration, long-serving associates were also honored:
Yolanda Gómez (39+ years)
Annabel García (39+ years)
Lupe Muñoz (36 years)
Magda Montferrand (30+ years)
Rebecca Rodriguez (20 years, AP Team Lead)
Laura Legarreta (20 years, Coach)
Randy Mann (21 years)
Walmart further emphasized its commitment to the community by donating over $3,500 to Barrio Fest and the Fort Stockton Community Theatre, represented at the event by Miss Alice. Community departments including police, fire, and EMS were also thanked for their continuous support and service.
As shoppers filed into the newly remodeled store, they were treated to free samples, refreshments, cupcakes, and a visit from Sparky, Walmart’s iconic mascot. For many, the morning was not just about a fresh coat of paint—it was a reaffirmation that Fort Stockton’s Walmart remains deeply connected to the people it serves.
