The first music instrument I was attracted to was the electric guitar. Even though I had piano and acoustic guitar lessons prior, it was the electric guitar that got me excited and passionate about creating music. Found this newspaper clipping from when I was in a band with friends performing during middle school. Not too long after, the drum machine, sequencer and midi keyboard became my favorite instruments and I got hooked on making beats. #electricguitar #performing
Today Universal Music released it's new and improved "Royalty Window" for writers and publishers; it's now renamed to UMPG Window. It features advanced royalty analytics and real time catalog analysis. Overall at first glance this seems to be a nice improvement from the prior system. They now show you how much has been collected during the current period versus waiting for the distribution date to find out. #musicroyalties #umpgwindow #universalmusic #musicpublishing
During my college years I was studying business and at night was working as an audio engineer at various recording studios. Got to work with many different producers, artists and songwriters during that time. One of the sessions I helped with got the attention of industry veterans Tommy Mattola and Cory Rooney and they picked up a song for their new artist Tarralyn. The original files to the song got lost and we had to travel to Cory's personal studio in Long Island to recreate and finalize the record. I remember he was so in love with the original record and mix that he kept giving his personal engineers a hard time about the new mix and kept saying to reference the original as he thought it was perfect. I ended up getting a programming credit for the single that was released in 2004. I was very blessed to have had that experience and it gave me motivation to keep chipping away at music even though I began working in advertising sales after completing college in 2005.
One of the very first "Rockwell" logos. This design was created in 2013 to represent the business model of owning and representing music and recording copyrights. The blue and purple colors present a balance with a wide appeal. Later, the company simplified its operating name and redesigned the logo maintaining similar colors while the typography dramatically changed from capital letters to a modern lower case. The newer font has a deeper meaning, later to be revealed. Rockwell is still operating with occasional services but has become mainly a passive music publishing and sound recording investment vehicle. Just some of the #books I've collected over the years. I remember early on it seemed to take forever to understand all the nuances between the record industry (labels, producers, musicians, etc.) and the music industry (publishers, songwriters, composers, etc). The concept of how a song/composition (performing arts copyright) is interwoven in a record (sound recording copyright) was just one of the many concepts to tackle. Thankfully with all of the experiences along in this journey, things have become much clearer. Thanks to everyone of you that has been apart of the journey in any capacity. We all learn from the hands-on experiences, from each other and sometimes from the books.

Besides having a fun time creating music, one of my intensions, like many others in music, was to find ways to generate income from the music. As many discover, careers in music are unfortunately some of the most difficult paths to choose. Everytime I get a royalty check, it reminds me back to when I was just trying to figure out this industry. From selling music to artists in person and later through a custom web-portal in the early 2000s, from production & audio services to music licensing and publishing, its been a long journey that I am thankful for. I'm happy to have learned about both the record and music industries (two different worlds) that now allow me to dabble in the music world on a more part-time, or even passive basis. Looking forward to achieving more dreams in music that are still unfulfilled in this life! Looking back through all the "love" television episode cue-sheets in my ASCAP account, it reminds me just how long of a journey its been from all the way back when I started making beats as a teenager. Its a dream come true to have these experiences along the way. Thanks to all the collaborators and publishing partners! They are using them on frequently in rehearsals and have also appeared on television with them! Digna also uses the tablets for presentations. This technology has helped them eliminate finding ink and printing paper for each new repertoire of choral sheet music they wish to explore.
Last year we donated music supplies and digital tablets to a Cuban choir named Coro Entrevoces ran by Maestra Digna Guerra. They thanked us by recording a song for our donors and supporters. That music was dedicated to Dr. Susan McDonald, Jeff's college music teacher who we discovered during the program had to retire early from early-onset Alzheimer's. This is why we are asking for your help.

A great thing about this non-profit is they allow 100% of donations to go directly to research while the founders and board members cover all of the operating costs and expenses of the organization.
