95.7FM UPDATE:
Redeemer Radio was founded to share the truth and beauty of the Catholic Church. While sports offer many positive life lessons, we've discerned that airing high school games doesn't fulfill of our mission to evangelize. We're grateful for the good that has come through Ang Di Carlo, the student interns, and the entire 95.7 Sports broadcast team. May God continue to lead and bless Angelo, his family, and his new endeavors.
SOME PERSONAL NEWS TO SHARE:
What an incredible five years it has been for me at Redeemer Radio.
Unfortunately, that time is coming to an end in the next few weeks. Redeemer Radio has decided high school sports no longer fits with their mission. While I disagree, I don’t want that to take away from my gratitude for what the last five years brought.
I was starting to trend in a good direction in my faith before arriving at Redeemer Radio. It was perfect timing, really. And, no, I don’t think it was a coincidence. I'm a better person, husband, father, friend & Catholic for the spiritual growth I've had listening to my own station's programming for these last five years. I'm forever grateful that God led me here so I could grow closer to Him. My car stereo is actually stuck on 95.7FM (true story), so I will continue to listen!
I'm very proud of what we achieved with sports and our sports internship program. Having the opportunity to mentor high school students from Marian and Saint Joseph high schools has been a blast. I've seen these kids grow in various ways. Some will soon be graduating college and are already fabulous broadcasters. Others used the internship as a way to 'break out of their shell' and find their voice. These kids learned the ins and outs of broadcasting, marketing and social media. They received a behind-the-curtain look into whether they want to do this in college, or not (and that’s good too!).
Our program wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the support of our sponsors, led by Notre Dame Federal Credit Union and Tire Rack, but especially the schools, principals, athletic directors, coaches and players. They gave us great access and allowed us to spotlight their sports, schools and student-athletes. I truly believe we gave Marian and Saint Joseph some of the best coverage in the area the last five years.
I cannot name all who have made the last five years so wonderful but I do want to single out three people: Bob Berger, John Brach and Bobby Kloska. These men are great friends. I don’t think I’d be where I am today without their wisdom, humor, coaching and strength.
I appreciate that Redeemer Radio gave me plenty of notice on their decision to end sports programming so that I was able to figure out what’s next. I do have a new local job that I’m pumped about and you will find out soon what that is, but I wanted to give my love and appreciation for what this experience at Redeemer Radio has given me its due first.
