Local actor Martel Harris is bringing a cabaret to honor Broadway's black artists with "At The Corner of Black and Broadway" at Three Rivers Music Theatre from June 5-7.

“I really wanted to put this cabaret on to highlight the achievements and the accomplishments of Black Broadway artists, because so often those accomplishments don’t get talked about in the light that they should,” he said.

Turnstone Center for Children and Adults with Disabilities will return with its fifth annual Center Stage talent show at Clyde Theatre on Tuesday, June 2.

“Art in all of its forms is an expression of a person’s perspective," said Sarah Menke, Turnstone's marketing and communications specialist. "We really want to celebrate that, and that’s part of our mission, too, to really highlight all the different perspectives of people with differing abilities and different backgrounds.”

The 10 performers vying for this year's $5,000 prize are tap dancer Addison Prichard; singers Ellise Young, Martel Harris, Pamela Lovelette, TeSharra Thomas, and Tyresse Ferguson; bands Los Electro and Midnight Mimosas; pianist Rio Zuffinetti; and guitarist W***y Bo**er.

Our latest issue is now out, and you'll know you have the new one when you see the trio from Los Electro on the cover.

While there's pretty of good reasons to put them on the cover, as they've generated a devoted following with the brand of "Latin rock and psychedelic cumbia for the soul," they're also the next artist featured at the Pearl District Fort Wayne Summer Arts Series, presented by Whatzup with sponsorship from MidWest America Federal Credit Union on Friday, June 5, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

“We just like seeing people having a good time, just letting themselves go,” guitarist/vocalist David Vaides said. “A lot of people might not be too comfortable with just dancing in public, but hopefully we can break people out of their comfort zones.”

Homestead and PFW graduate Adam Gilbert is back in town for a show at 6 p.m. today at Summit City Comedy Club.

"I’m a big proponent of getting funnier, and each time you get something really cool, use that to get the next thing you want," Gilbert said of journey. "When I got my Don’t Tell Comedy set, I submitted that for the Comedy Cellar (prominent club in Greenwich Village, Manhattan). When I got (Just For Laughs), I used that to meet comedians and get other spots in New York and open for Chris Distefano at The Chicago Theatre. Each thing is like a stepping stone."
