Flood waters rise quickly and escape can be difficult - please review your evacuation route and plan NOW
⚠️BREAKING: An exceptionally rare HIGH RISK for flash flooding has been issued for areas near/west/northwest of San Antonio through 7 AM Wednesday morning. This is the first time any portion of Texas has been in a "high risk" for excessive rainfall in years.
Definition of a "high risk" flood threat according to the Weather Prediction Center:
"Severe, widespread flash flooding. Areas that don't normally experience flash flooding, could. Lives and property in greater danger"
Why has the risk been upgraded for this area? 10-15" of rain has already fallen in the last 12 hours here, and the new data I shared with you earlier suggests another 10-20"+ accumulation LATE TUESDAY through EARLY WEDNESDAY morning. While uncertainty remains high, if that amount of rain does indeed come down, it's an unfathomable amount of water that will run straight into nearby waterways at an extreme pace.
Elsewhere, the level 3 out of 4 "moderate" flood risk has expanded and now includes some of the I-35 corridor. That still denotes a considerable (but slightly less likely) flash flood threat.
There is time for this forecast to shift. I sure hope it does. I hope we can dodge this bullet, but you need to be prepared for the worst before you go to bed tonight. Please stay vigilant.
