Yesterday we lost one of the true titans of Texas music. Joe Ely, the legendary West Texas singer-songwriter, performer, and storyteller, passed away at the age of 78 on December 15, 2025. His influence on Texas Country, Americana, and progressive roots music is simply immeasurable, and his passion for live performance made him a beloved figure not just here in Texas but across the world.
