Official account of the American Paint Horse Association | Marked For Greatness✨
Beginning with approximately 3,800 horses in the registry, over 1 million Paints are registered with the Association today. APHA ranks second in the number of horses registered annually in the United States, making it one of the largest horse breeds in the world. Although the APHA's primary mission is to record pedigrees, the association is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history, breedi
ng, training, racing, showing, sales and enjoyment of American Paint Horses. More importantly, the heart of the APHA lies in its members, which is why the association strives to develop and sponsor programs that reflect their interests and their love of the American Paint Horse. The APHA's goal is to encourage American Paint Horse owners to find fulfillment with their horses in whatever activities they find most enjoyable, and to give members the opportunity to share in the pleasure of Paint Horses.

The American Paint Horse Association promotes, preserves and provides meaningful experiences with Paint Horses.
“When I look at my Paint Horse, I see the colorful legacy of his past. With a personality and independent spirit so powerful, it bubbled to the surface in a wild series of beautiful markings. Each one a gifted heirloom from his ancestors; showing me just where he’d been, but never revealing quite where we are going.
Greatness doesn’t fit in a mold; it doesn’t follow a trend. It defies it, holding fast to who it was meant to be. Greatness is not simply for the chosen few but instead for those brave enough to seize it. The moment I saw this horse, I knew he was clearly never meant to shy in the shadows, he defiantly stood like a beacon of individuality with crooked and winding chrome almost glowing through his skin.”
If you have owned a Paint, you have a story like this. It’s what leads us to that one special horse that changes us, leaving an indelible mark on what kind of rider we became as well as what kind of person. We all love horses, but a Paint is the horse as unique and complicated as the rider, a horse that wears its spirit. It is for those seeking a horse that is not just one in a million but rather the horse that comes once a lifetime.
United in our love for remarkable and talented horses, APHA was created to captivate generations of riders looking for versatile abilities but singular identity. We hope to further the breed with a passionate commitment to preserve and promote these living pieces of artwork. For the world is full of horses, but you never see the same paint twice. We want you to find your horse, a horse marked for greatness.
