A chicken BBQ dinner from 1-4 p.m. on August 2 at American Legion Post 295, 211 Smith St., Green Springs, will help fund Ava's funeral expenses. A $12 dinner includes BBQ chicken, baked beans, potato salad or coleslaw and dessert. There will also be a raffle and 50/50.

Fostoria firefighters combat a fire Wednesday morning at a residence on the 900 block of Walnut Street. The Fostoria Fire Division said the three adult residents escaped from the fire, with one going to ProMedica Fostoria Community "to be checked out."

The fire division said the top floor of the residence was "a total loss," while the lower level incurred smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire was undetermined as of Thursday morning and remained under investigation.

It's not as though Carole Rinehart and Pat Brown wouldn't welcome others when they get together monthly as members of Fostoria High School's Class of 1952.

It's just that for about the last two years, they've been the only two to show up. And make no mistake — the two 90-year-olds enjoy their time together at Fostoria's American Table restaurant.

Fostoria City Schools' Board of Education on Monday night approved the hiring of Amy Hineline as Fostoria Junior/Senior High School assistant principal.

In a special meeting, the board tabbed Hineline, who most recently was an assistant principal in Tiffin City Schools, to replace Amanda Ricketts, who recently left to become an assistant principal at Ottawa Hills Junior/Senior High School.
