Earlier this month, Pennsylvania lost a giant in the fight for environmental rights.

Senator Franklin Kury authored Pennsylvania's landmark Environmental Rights Amendment, enshrining into our state constitution the people's right to "clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment."

It was the honor and privilege of Lehigh University Press to publish Kury's autobiography, Clean Politics, Clean Streams, in 2011.

We join the Commonwealth in mourning Senator Kury, and we send our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

Lehigh University Libraries have once again earned national recognition from The Princeton Review, ranking #14 in the nation for Best College Library in The Best 392 Colleges: 2027 Edition. The distinction is based entirely on student survey responses and marks the Libraries’ second top-15 showing in recent years.

The ranking reflects students’ views of Linderman Library and Fairchild-Martindale Library and the resources, expertise, collections, technology, programs, and spaces they provide in support of learning and research.

“What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that it reflects the voices of our students,” said Boaz Nadav-Manes, University Librarian. “Our goal is for Lehigh’s libraries to be places where students feel they belong and where they can find the expertise, resources, spaces, and inspiration they need to succeed. Being recognized again among the nation’s best tells us that students value what we have built together - and challenges us to keep making their library experience even better.”

Leopold Leeb's Missionaries to China landed in our office mailboxes this week. A lovely cover and a nice surprise on a brisk, sunny, January day.

Leeb's work brings back the LUP colophon, which had graced the spine and title pages of earlier LUP books.

"A fitting tribute to a true original."

Howard Weinbrot's death in 2021, writes Jack Lynch, "marked the end of an epoch. He was among the last of a generation of scholarly giants trained in the 1950s and early 1960s." In his review of Kevin L. Cope's festschrift honoring Howard Weinbrot, Lynch applaud's the "deeply learned chapters" that make up this celebration of Weinbrot's scholarship.

The review of Howard Weinbrot and the Precincts of Enlightenment appears in the November 2025 issue of The Scriblerian and the Kit-Cats.
