Matters of Perspective

Matters of Perspective Helping people rediscover what was already within them โ€” one perspective at a time.

Matters of Perspectiveยฎ exists because a whole lot of good humans were taught to cope, comply, and keep it together โ€” while quietly ignoring the small, persistent voice inside that kept whispering, โ€œThere has to be more than this.โ€

Spoiler alert: there is. This work isnโ€™t about fixing whatโ€™s โ€œwrongโ€ with you. Itโ€™s about questioning what you were taught to believe in the first place โ€” and who bene

fited from you never questioning it. At Matters of Perspective, we explore how fear disguises itself as logic, how conditioning masquerades as personality, and how the mind โ€” bless its well-meaning heart โ€”l earns to protect patterns, systems, and identities long after the original threat is gone. In other words, we look at the unspoken mechanics of perception โ€” the subtle ways attention is shaped, self-doubt is normalized, and external authority quietly replaces inner knowing. Once you notice them, you canโ€™t unnotice them. And once you understand them, you get to choose differently. That exploration happens through different doorways, because humans donโ€™t come in one standard-issue model. For many, the deepest shift happens through ๐‘ธ๐’–๐’‚๐’๐’•๐’–๐’Ž ๐‘ฏ๐’†๐’‚๐’๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘ฏ๐’š๐’‘๐’๐’๐’”๐’Š๐’” ๐‘ป๐’†๐’„๐’‰๐’๐’Š๐’’๐’–๐’† (๐‘ธ๐‘ฏ๐‘ฏ๐‘ปยฎ) โ€” a powerful, experiential process that gently escorts the overthinking mind out for a coffee break and lets the subconscious speak instead. This is where deeply embedded programs surface, insight stops being theoretical, and healing becomes embodied โ€” guided from within rather than handed down by someone elseโ€™s rulebook. For others, the work unfolds through ๐’„๐’๐’–๐’๐’”๐’†๐’๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ โ€” a grounded, compassionate space to untangle old stories, soften shame, and rebuild trust with yourself without judgment, pressure, or spiritual bypassing. A place to safely examine inherited beliefs and reclaim your own perspective. And sometimes, change begins with the beautifully practical: ๐’„๐’๐’–๐’“๐’”๐’†๐’” ๐’‚๐’๐’… ๐’”๐’†๐’๐’‡-๐’”๐’•๐’–๐’…๐’š ๐’‘๐’“๐’๐’ˆ๐’“๐’‚๐’Ž๐’” designed to make mindset work stupid simple โ€” so awareness turns into action instead of another notebook full of โ€œaha momentsโ€ that never quite make it into real life. Woven through all of this is the ๐‘ฏ๐’๐’Ž๐’† ๐’๐’‡ ๐‘ด๐’Š๐’”๐’‡๐’Š๐’•๐’” โ€” a community for people who never quite fit into rigid systems, tidy labels, or the relentless pressure to โ€œbe moreโ€ while feeling less. Itโ€™s a place for honest conversations, shared humanity, and the quiet relief of realizing youโ€™re not broken โ€” youโ€™re just paying attention. The principles behind everything here are refreshingly unsexy and wildly effective:

Awareness before obedience

Choice over conditioning

Compassion over self-attack

Truth over comfort

Humanity over hustle

No gurus. No gold stars for suffering. No pretending youโ€™re healed because youโ€™ve read the right book. Just perspective โ€” applied with courage, curiosity, humor, and heart. If youโ€™re tired of outsourcing your worth, postponing your happiness, or living by rules you never consciously agreed toโ€ฆ welcome. You donโ€™t need to become someone else. You just need to stop abandoning yourself. And yes โ€” this is where that begins.

You alone have the power over your happiness.

WOW! Once this sunk in for me, my whole world changed.

Iโ€™m not saying everything is hunky-dory all the time. Iโ€™m saying I have a new appreciation for what is happening to and around me. Because I come from a place of deep-rooted happiness, I am able to deal with and manage better what life has in store for me.

Since I choose happiness, I have more good experiences, good people, and good things coming my way.

Once you have discovered and chosen your happiness, you will notice more of the positive and brighter things in every situation. Not only will you bounce back more easily when you have been knocked down, you will get up faster.

That realization became one of the cornerstones of

If you've been looking for happiness outside yourself, maybe it's time to look in a different direction.

Start small. Pay attention to what lights you up, what brings you peace, and what makes you feel most alive. You may discover that happiness has been within you all along.

And trust meโ€ฆ once you realize that, shift happens. ๐Ÿ˜

What if everything you think you know is just a well-rehearsed story youโ€™ve been telling yourself? What if โ€˜truthโ€™ isnโ€™t fixed, but just a matter of perspective?

Our brains love patterns. They crave familiarity. They want things to make sense. But real growth? That happens when we shake things up, challenge what we believe, and start asking better questions.

Thatโ€™s where WTF comes in. And no, not the version youโ€™re thinking.

WTF isnโ€™t just a reaction to lifeโ€™s unexpected curveballsโ€”itโ€™s a mindset shift, a challenge, a perspective flip waiting to happen. Turns out, WTF can stand for a whole lot of things, each one inviting you to rethink, reframe, and maybe even laugh at yourself along the way.

Every cat owner knows: no matter how many fancy beds or cat trees you buy, your cat will chooseโ€ฆ the box it came in. Big box, small box, impossibly tiny box -- it doesnโ€™t matter. If it exists, they will attempt to sit in it.

Zafira, at just four months old, has already declared herself the reigning queen of โ€œIf it fits, I sits.โ€ Except, letโ€™s be real -- she doesnโ€™t always fit. More than once Iโ€™ve found her spilling over the edges, looking like a furry muffin top trying to pass as sleek. And she doesnโ€™t care. Not one bit. If she can wedge a paw in, the box is hers.

Thereโ€™s something gloriously defiant about that. Zafira isnโ€™t asking for permission. She isnโ€™t waiting for approval. Sheโ€™s claiming her space with all the confidence of a tiny, zoomie-powered empress.

Hereโ€™s a reframe that tends to land softly โ€” especially for people whoโ€™ve been doubting themselves for years:

Your discomfort was not a malfunction.

It was data.

It was your system saying:

This costs more than it should.
This requires more override than is sustainable.

Normal teaches people to ignore those signals โ€” especially if they can still perform.

But performance is not proof of fit.

Is happiness the same as contentment? If not, whatโ€™s the difference? How do we know if we are content or happy?

Great question, and opinions vary widely. Consider this:

For a very long time I thought I was happy because I was content with my life and myself. The two terms seemed interchangeable. Being content meant being happy. And because I thought I was happy, I was content. But was I? Are you?

For myself, being content means making the best of a situation so it will work for me. Being content means basic needs are met, with added elements to make it fun. Contentment feels peaceful. It feels calm. It feels safe.

If this has you questioning the difference between being content and being truly happy, youโ€™re not alone. For much of my life, I believed my job was to keep everything upright. Jeff spent over 30 years in the Army. That didnโ€™t just mean deployments -- it meant weeks away on training exercises, months at schools, and countless nights when it was just me, the kids, and whatever pets were part of the family at the time.

While Jeff carried the responsibility of his soldiersโ€™ lives, I carried the responsibility of our childrenโ€™s everyday world. Bills had to be paid, homework had to be supervised, scraped knees kissed, soccer games attended, and bedtime stories read. I took that role seriously. I wanted Jeff to focus on his mission without worrying about us back home.

And I did it. The kids grew up resilient and loved. Jeff came home safe. We made it through the moves, the absences, and the uncertainty. And now, after 36+ years, we not only love each other -- we (most of the time!) still like each other, too. Thatโ€™s saying something.

Once shame loosens, something else tends to surface.

Grief.

Grief for the energy you spent trying to be easier.
Grief for the versions of you that were trimmed, muted, or delayed.
Grief for how early you learned that being fully yourself created consequences.

This grief doesnโ€™t mean youโ€™re wallowing.

It means youโ€™re integrating.

And hereโ€™s something people donโ€™t say enough:

Youโ€™re allowed to grieve something that was never explicitly taken from you โ€” but was quietly made unavailable.

In my struggle to overcome obstacles, the side effects were destruction of self-esteem and lack of self-love. After all, my own mother couldnโ€™t or wouldnโ€™t love me. Therefore, I must be an awful human being. Something must be wrong with me.

Each time I looked in the mirror, I saw a fat, ugly blob staring back at me. An unlovable, unworthy human being. It hurt to see my classmates smiling and happy with their loving families. I was envious and resentful โ€” envious for what they had and I lacked; resentful because I felt I could never have it.

Growing up longing to be loved and accepted made me vulnerable to all sorts of predators, even long into adulthood. I welcomed with open arms anybody who showed me kindness. More times than not, I was blindsided and taken advantage of. Fortunately, my guardian angels protected me from extreme physical danger.

The problem with believing you are unlovable is that eventually you start accepting things you should never have to accept.

You settle.

You tolerate.

You ignore red flags because someone, anyone, is finally paying attention to you.

Looking back, I can see how much of my life was shaped by the belief that I wasn't enough.

That realization became one of the most personal and painful lessons explored in

But what if the story you've been telling yourself about your worth isn't actually true?

What if you've been carrying someone else's judgment for so long that it started sounding like your own voice?

Because healing doesn't begin when other people finally love and accept you.

It begins when you start questioning why you never believed you deserved that love in the first place.

And trust me... that question has the power to change everything.

Shift happens. ๐Ÿ˜
