Fowler Beautification winners 2011

Fowler for renovation of the former Kay Frederick home located on Hwy 24. Third place went to the Tony Turnbaugh home located on Hwy 24, known as the former Fowler Bank and fourth was awarded to Joe Churchill for his property and building located on 1308th Street. Winners all received gift cards for their efforts. The first place winners will have their names engraved on the travelling plaque located at St. Paul United Church of Christ.
The Andrew family has been working on their home for over four years. The house formerly was occupied by Grandma and Grandpa Belden around 1965. New blue siding and a metal roof were added to the home as well as all new doors and landscaping. Much inside work has also been done with more to come and landscaping was added. Bernie stated that it might have been easier to tear the house down and start over. There were many different pitches to the house and many obstacles to overcome with an older home along the way but the family is very happy with the way the project has turned out.

The Sparks property is now used as a rental property. New siding was added, new landscaping, a new patio was poured in the rear of the home, trees were trimmed, part of the laundry room was rebuilt. An outside door was restored so that the property can be entered from the front, rather than through the garage. The inside of the home was also entirely redone. Gary, Sherry and daughter Lisa Marie helped with the improvements.

The Turnbaugh home, the former Fowler Bank, was completely tuck pointed this summer. The Turnbaugh home was one of the first winners of this contest and is continually improving their home through improvements (inside and out) and landscaping.

Joe Churchill bought a vacant lot in Fowler, cleared off all the debris and built a garage on the property. This was a visually pleasing improvement appreciated by neighbors in the area.

All who made improvements are to be commended for their work. Marilyn Wittler and Rita Lepper were thanked for spearheading this project on behalf of the Fowler association.
