CPS Was Called. Warning Signs Were There. And 5 Year Old Cali Anderson Still Didn’t Make It Home.

Five-year-old Cali Anderson was reportedly surrounded by warning signs long before her tragic death.

Family members reportedly noticed bruises and weight loss, and in 2015, a report was made to CPS. According to the case account, CPS investigated and had concerns but ultimately closed the case after reportedly finding insufficient direct evidence of violence.

Years later, after the family moved to Nevada, Cali was allegedly subjected to horrific abuse and isolation. She was reportedly locked inside a dog crate and beaten. In April 2018, five-year-old Cali was found unresponsive. Her body was later reportedly discovered inside a duffel bag in a storage unit.

Cali’s story raises heartbreaking questions about child abuse, CPS investigations, child protective services, warning signs, and whether more could have been done to protect a vulnerable child.

Pennsylvania father told caseworker, “I may have been too rough with him.”

The investigation began on May 18th when a caseworker contacted police to report a baby with multiple suspicious fractures.

The 5 week old baby boy had 2 rib fractures, humerus fracture, left & right femur fracture, and an ulna fracture. Doctors had previously treated the baby for excessive bruising.

Vincent Marino is being held on a $1 million dollar bond.

Marissa Kennedy- “I Feel Like I’m Dying”

Marissa Kennedy’s story is a heartbreaking case of child abuse and a devastating failure to protect a vulnerable child. Before her death in February 2018, 25 reports concerning Marissa were reportedly made over 16 months, including reports from medical and mental-health professionals, her school, police, and neighbors. Despite repeated concerns, Marissa remained in the home.

After her death, investigators uncovered horrific abuse and injuries that included a brain bleed, liver bleed, broken ribs, and extensive blunt-force trauma.

How many warnings does it take before someone listens?

Marissa’s story is a reminder of why we must listen when children show signs that something is wrong—and why protecting vulnerable children must always come first.

Nova Bryant: “I Tried My Hardest To Get Her Back.”

21-month-old Nova Bryant had already fought through so much in her short life.

Born 32 weeks premature, Nova suffered from multiple serious medical conditions and was removed from her biological parents at just 2 months old. Her father said, “I tried my hardest to do everything they wanted,” even remodeling his home in hopes of bringing his daughter back.

Instead, Nova was moved through multiple foster placements.

On May 21, 2024, police responded to a home after Nova was found unresponsive in a bathtub. She was rushed to the hospital and fought for 26 more days before she tragically died on June 16, 2024.

The foster caregiver, Hailynn Volpatti, was later charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, a Level 1 felony. She pleaded not guilty.

Nova’s story raises heartbreaking questions about foster care, DCS oversight, placement decisions, and who was responsible for protecting a medically vulnerable child.

Nova deserved safety. Nova deserved a voice. Nova deserved to come home. 🕊️
