❗️IPM REPORT ❗️

We hope everyone is well and ready for the Holiday Weekend! Recent reports tell us that a few insect pests are right on schedule: Japanese Beetles and Spotted Lanternfly. We are here to remind everyone to relax – they show up every year to see the fireworks. If you are on a current IPM program, their stay will likely be short-lived and plant damages should be minimal. Here is some more information about our Plant Health Care division. Side Note: We do not recommend placing Beetle Traps/Bags on or near your property! It will draw more beetles toward your plants.

🌿 Integrated Pest Management (IPM)

At Cypress Tree Care, we practice Integrated Pest Management (IPM) — the gold standard to responsible landscape protection. IPM doesn’t mean broadcasting pesticides to kill every insect in sight. A vast majority of insects and microorganisms are vital to the health of your trees and plants. Instead, we combine science-based monitoring with targeted treatment to manage pests while minimizing risks to people, pets, pollinators, and the environment.

🔍 Why You Might Still See Bugs — And Why That’s a Good Thing! 🌿
Systemic pesticides are an important tool to IPM programs because they can be applied early season, thereby limiting exposure during periods of high insect activity. These products work from the inside out, absorbed by the plant and targeting harmful pests over time — not instantly. Insects like Japanese Beetles and Spotted Lanternfly may still be in the environment after treatment, but they won’t thrive or reproduce for long. They must consume part of the treated plant tissue in order for the control products to take effect.

This slower approach is intentional — it reduces overuse of chemicals and preserves beneficial insects like ladybugs, bees, and butterflies. A few pests in the environment can be normal — even necessary — in a healthy ecosystem.

🐞 What to Expect:
✅ A gradual reduction in damaging pests

✅Minimal accumulating damage to your trees and plants
✅ Minimal harm to non-target species
✅ Better long-term health for your trees and shrubs – building natural defense

🌳 Our Arborists work closely with DDA, DNREC, and local extension agencies to meet all of these needs while making happy landscape owners. With our expert care and IPM approach, we aim for ecosystem balance — not a sterile yard. Because nature doesn't need to be perfect, just healthy.

🌡️🔥 Is Your Tree in Trouble? Don’t Miss the Signs of Heat Stress! 🌳💧

Scorched leaves, early leaf drop, yellowing, or oozing sap? Your trees might be crying out for help in the heat!

During hot, dry weather, trees lose water faster than they can absorb it — and that spells stress. Newly planted trees are especially vulnerable, but even mature ones can suffer without proper care.

✅ Tips to help your trees beat the heat:

Water deeply once a week around the drip line, not the trunk.
Avoid sprinklers — use soaker hoses or slow trickling.
Watch for signs like wilted or scorched leaves.
Remove dead branches to reduce stress.
Consider replacing stone beds with a hardwood mulch.
At Cypress Tree Care, our Plant Health Care (PHC) programs help your trees handle heat and other environmental stressors with smart moisture management and expert support. 🌿

📞 Call us at 302-732-3227 for a free consultation and estimate — your trees will thank you!

We are seeing stress symptoms in a lot of evergreens like Arborvitae, Cryptomeria, and Hollies. With the amount of rain we have had this spring, people don’t think of drought damage as a possible cause. In periods of drought, trees lose some of their roots – especially fibrous feeder roots that are great for absorbing rainwater. Damaged trees might not be absorbing as much available water as they need.

This article explains how the drought periods of 2024 might have an impact on the health of your plants today. Meanwhile, pest and disease pressures are escalating. Many species of Scale are beginning to hatch “crawlers” making this the optimal (and responsible) time to treat.

For questions on pests, disease, moisture & nutrient management in your landscape, give us a call for an arborist consult. Our comprehensive Plant Health Care (PHC) programs provide the knowledge, tools, and technology to help your trees thrive in tough times.

Many on Delmarva are seeing damage to trees and shrubs from the severe drought we experienced in 2024. Evergreens used for windbreaks and screening on poultry farms are no exception. Jill Pollok, University of Delaware Plant Diagnostician, shares items that we can expect in 2025 after the drought:
