📣 Every Memphis-Shelby County Schools board seat will be back on the ballot in 2026.

On Monday, Shelby County Commissioners voted 7-5 to move elections up by four years, cutting short terms for five members elected in 2024.

The decision follows months of debate over district leadership and comes as lawmakers continue to scrutinize the board.

Recently released TVAAS data shows Tennessee’s public charter school students, including those in Nashville and Memphis, are making more academic progress than their peers in traditional public schools. Statewide, 54% of charters earned top growth ratings (levels 4 or 5) compared to 39% of district schools—with 70% of Nashville charters and 54% of Memphis charters reaching that mark. are helping students overcome obstacles, close achievement gaps, and build on growth to excel. Tennessee’s Education Freedom Scholarship Program has reached full capacity in its first year.

The Tennessee Department of Education says all 20,000 available scholarships were claimed, with more than 42,000 applications submitted by families across the state.
