On October 9, 2025, the Swain County Sheriff’s Office responded to a rollover vehicle accident at Country Girls Campground on Hyatt Creek Road. The first responding deputy requested immediate backup. Upon arrival, deputies found a red 2012 Jeep Wrangler on its side with significant damage to a nearby fence. The driver, identified as Myles Simpson, 23, of Bryson City, NC, was still inside the vehicle and was safely removed by EMS.

Further investigation revealed that the Jeep had been taken without permission. A female victim was located nearby and transported to Swain County Hospital for treatment. Witnesses reported that she was dragged by the vehicle while attempting to stop the suspect from taking it. Another resident also attempted to intervene and was dragged approximately 100 feet.

Based on the investigation, probable cause was established to charge Myles Simpson with multiple offenses, including:
• Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle
• Felony Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle
• Felony Common Law Robbery
• Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property
• Misdemeanor Injury to Real Property
• Misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon
• Misdemeanor Assault on a Disabled Person

Simpson was issued a $30,000 secured bond by the Magistrate, who also set his court date and conditions for release.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

We appreciate the swift response of EMS and the cooperation of campground residents. The safety of our community remains our top priority.
