Veterans 2 Veterans, a food bank organized by Kenneth Elkins (right), held its first ever Christmas dinner giveaway at the Robert Carpenter Community Building in Franklin. Elkins said he was able to gather 12 dinners of ham, rolls, yams, green beans, corn, fruit and pumpkin pie to give to veterans who may end up “lost between the cracks” left by other food pantries or organizations.

From the Town of Franklin concerning lighting on Phillips Street:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Planned Street Light Service Interruption – Phillips Street beginning December 17

The Town of Franklin has been informed by Duke Energy effective December 17, the street lights on Phillips Street from Wayah Street to Carolina Mountain Drive will be taken out of service and will remain dark. Work that is occurring on a rock wall at Franklin High School close to an underground power source makes this service interruption necessary. This is a safety consideration for workers.

The lights will remain off until after the New Year when the wall is completed and power is restored. The Town will share information as it becomes available related to restoration.

Should you have any questions, please contact Bill Deal, Public Works Director, at 828-524-2516 x 402.
