After the cold front passage this afternoon which could spark a few showers & thunderstorms, expect several days of NO RAIN. If you need to get a project done outside this would be a good period of time to do so. After today, We are looking at 3 days of comfortable temperatures & 5-6 days of DRY weather. The next best chance of rain, after today, is next Sunday the 27th. Enjoy the dry weather!

If you perceive an unusually high level of humidity this summer, your impression is accurate. The average dew point for the first half of summer has been 76°, which represents the highest recorded level for this period in our area in recorded history. Some days have reached into the low 80s for dew point temperatures. That is almost unheard of in this area.

Another round of showers & thunderstorms is expected late this afternoon into this evening. These storms will bring with them torrential rains that will likely lead to flash flooding, especially in areas that received the heaviest rain the past few days. A *Flood Watch* is in effect from 2pm today until 12am tonight for the entire area. If you encounter a flooded roadway of unknown depth, “turn around, don’t drown”. Flooding is especially dangerous at night when it’s harder to recognize. Stay alert this afternoon and evening for rapidly changing weather conditions.

Additional showers and thunderstorms are anticipated to impact the area over the next 1-2 hours, potentially leading to further flooding due to the already saturated ground conditions resulting from this past week’s rainfall. Flooding poses a significant threat, particularly at night, as it can be more challenging to recognize. If encountered, it is essential to exercise caution and follow the principle of “Turn around, don’t drown” when faced with a flooded roadway.
Some areas may receive an additional 1-2 inches of rainfall on top of what fell earlier tonight.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon into tonight may bring flash flooding in areas receiving the heaviest rain. Although these storms are likely to move faster than in previous days, the heavy rain over the past week has saturated the ground, increasing susceptibility to flooding. A *Flood Watch* is in effect from 4pm today to 4am on Saturday morning. Remain alert for possible warnings later today and tonight. If encountering a flooded roadway, exercise caution and follow the principle of “turn around, don’t drown”.

Another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms is anticipated this afternoon and evening. Once again, these storms may produce torrential rain, potentially leading to instances of flash flooding. Areas that received the most significant rainfall over the past week are at the highest risk for flash flooding. A *Flood Watch* is in effect for areas north of the VA/NC border from 12pm today to 12am tonight. If you encounter a flooded roadway of unknown depth, please exercise caution and “turn around, don’t drown”. Remain alert for possible warnings this afternoon and evening.

When we refer to “pop-up” storms, this is what we mean. They cannot be tracked in advance and instead appear suddenly over a localized area.
