St. Mary and Franklin Banner-Tribune The Banner-Tribune has been continuously published since its founding on April 15, 1889, as The St. Mary Banner. The St. Mary and Franklin Banner-Tribune.

Mary Banner encountered competition from the Franklin Tribune, an offshoot of the Patterson Tribune in 1931. In December of that same year, the owner of the St. Mary Banner died and the two papers merged to for the St. Mary Banner had quite a pedigree, having been formed by soon-to-be-Governor Murphy J. Foster, Sr., and sitting Senator Donelson Caffery. Its early 19th century predecessors were hig

hly the regarded Planter's Banner and the Attakapas Register. The paper became the first Louisiana installation of the Goss Suburban Press in 1959. In the 1960s the paper was sold to the Walls group, becoming the headquarters of the Walls' Louisiana properties, overseeing Franklin, Morgan City, Houma and Thibodaux from the Franklin Office.

You’re invited to attend The TECHE Project’s Wildlife Management Workshop in Franklin on January 7, 2023. We will be holding this year’s workshop at the Teche Theatre for the Performing Arts (501 Main St. in Franklin) from 10 a.m. to noon.

The focus is on the ecology and rearing of wood ducks. You can also learn about how to film nestlings in the box and on Jump Day when they fledge from the box. Nest boxes will be available for sale, and free Bayou Teche Paddle Trail mile marker signs are available for those program participants on Bayou Teche.

Our target audience for this workshop is those living on Bayou
Teche, but anyone who is interested in rearing wood ducks is welcome to attend. TECHE Project members and current Wood Duck Box Program participants get in free. For others, the cost is $10. We hope to see you there!

It's never too early start planning your Christmas traditions in Historic Downtown Franklin!

The "Christmas Under the Lampposts" decorated golf cart parade will be great with this year's "Christmas on the Bayou" Lighting Display having more lights and displays with our beautiful selfie station. Bring the family for photos with the beautiful Historic Downtown Franklin Pocket Park Christmas Tree! The Franklin Merchants Association's MINGLE & JINGLE will happen on a Saturday this year and will be led by the Cajun Polar Express and Santa photos in Historic Downtown Franklin. Also, plan to bring the New Year in with us as we party the night away before lowering our iconic Lampposts 7 stories down the St. Mary Parish Courthouse.
