Lets Talk Numbers # # # #
As many of the public knows the WPAS proudly hosts a spay/ neuter clinic and TNR program, our goal with this program is to help cut down on the amount of unwanted litters in Washington Parish.
Most "small rural" Shelters cant even dream of much less physically host a program such as ours. As soon as the shelter was opened it was a goal we strived to reach. While it took over Two and a half years August 2021 we began what would be a roller coaster of long exhausting days.
August 2021 we started our maximum was about 9-10 animals a week.
With our Vet, who drives over two hours each week to get to the shelter, and two "vet techs" i.e. untrained shelter staff, and a group of two volunteers.
We have reached an incredible goal in 2022. With many hurdles and tribulations we can proudly show our numbers.
From January 1st 2022- December 31st 2022 the WPAS along with the WHS. We have spayed and neutered....
587 CATS!!!!!!!
160 Dogs!!!!!!!
These animals are all from Washington Parish, may they be privately owned, Shelter based (from all three shelters), or feral/ strays. These are incredible numbers, and all of Washington Parish should be proud that we are able to help with this.
All owners who brought in their pets. You should be proud, we couldn't have these numbers with out you.
All of our cat trappers and cat colony providers and cats owners. You should be proud.
All shelter staff members. You should be proud. Though it is hard to get spots sometimes.
All rescue owners who waited patiently to get those community dogs and cats in. You should be proud.
And a massive THANK YOU to the amazing Vet behind it all, I could not be more thankful, YOU are incredible, YOU are a force, through rain, tornados, a few broken windows, and so much more, YOU were always ready to go and willing to help.
Also THANK YOU to the Washington Parish Government, and the Washington Parish Counsel, with out these amazing people behind us, supporting our dreams, and showing us how proud they are we could not have achieved theses goals.
Thank you to the WPAS shelter staff, with most days starting at 8 AM and too many days running until 7-8 PM just to turn around and be back at work the next day solving problems and taking care of the community and shelter pets. You girls are amazing and I am so proud of the work and heart you put in.
