The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and FCPS Maryland invites you to join us for a Back-to-School/Meet Your School Resource Officer (SRO) event on Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 5-8 p.m. at Frederick High School, 650 Carroll Parkway, Frederick.
“Our SRO’s become ingrained in the schools they are assigned, they are mentors for the students, and confidants to the teachers and staff,” said FCSO Sheriff Chuck Jenkins. “Last school year alone, our deputy SROs investigated and provided proper disposition to 56 school threats, including many social media threats. This event is an opportunity for you and your child to meet your SRO, ask questions, and receive helpful information on social media do’s and don’ts.”
The FCSO will be handing out age/grade specific school supplies for all grades K-12, on a first-come-first-served basis. Additionally, the FCSO will provide free popcorn, snow cones, and cotton candy. FCPS and FCSO leadership will be in attendance and food trucks will also be at this event.
There will be a drawing for a free Google Chromebook every hour and participants need to be present to win. The scheduled times for the drawings are approximately 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 p.m. Only one winner per hour and the same person cannot win twice.
The FCSO has 16 sworn deputies assigned and in 2005, the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) recognized the FCSO SRO program as a Model Program. In 2016, the SRO Program Supervisor was honored with a National School Safety Award from the School Safety Advocacy Council.
