Baltimore native Alex Freeman scored just before halftime to double the lead, helping the United States secure a 2-0 victory over Australia on Friday, June 19, at Lumen Field in Seattle. The win clinched a berth in the World Cup round of 32 with one game to spare, making the Americans the second team to advance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup behind Mexico.
Freeman, who was born in Baltimore, found the net with a header from close range just before halftime to make it 2-0.

🚧 A New Giant Has Arrived in Downtown Frederick 🚧

If you’ve looked toward Carroll Creek lately, you’ve probably noticed it.

The massive tower crane now standing over the future Marriott Downtown Frederick Hotel & Conference Center has become the newest addition to Frederick’s skyline — and one of the clearest signs yet that this long-awaited project is moving into a new phase.

From above, the scale of the construction site is impossible to miss. The crane now towers over the surrounding buildings, giving residents a glimpse of just how large this transformational development will be once completed.

The Marriott Downtown Frederick at Carroll Creek is currently under construction and will bring more than 200 guest rooms along with extensive conference and event space to downtown Frederick. When completed, it will be the only facility in Frederick City and County capable of hosting large-scale conferences, conventions, and business events under one roof. Our latest aerial footage captures the impressive progress being made on site — but it’s the crane that steals the show, serving as a visible reminder that one of Frederick’s most ambitious development projects is now rising from the ground.

Jersey Mike’s Subs is coming soon to the former Starbucks space at 1046 W Patrick St Unit C in Frederick, MD. The company’s website confirms the upcoming Frederick location, and permanent signage has already been installed at the site.

Founded in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Jersey Mike’s is a national sub sandwich chain known for its fresh-sliced and fresh-grilled subs.

This will be the second Jersey Mike’s location within the City of Frederick, joining the location across from Francis Scott Key Mall, and the fourth in Frederick County, with additional locations in Ijamsville and Urbana.

A Frederick county man is $200k richer after purchasing a winning ticket at the Weis Market in Thurmont, MD.

“A Frederick County man received a “WIN ALL” symbol on his scratch-off which resulted in a $200,000 prize.
•
His journey began at the Weis Market, located at 2 Thurmont Boulevard in Thurmont, when he purchased a $5,000,000 LUXE scratch-off on his way home from work. He scanned his ticket and it said “Go to Lottery”.

The Western Maryland dad went home and decided to scratch the whole ticket to find the prize underneath.
•
“I thought I won a couple thousand bucks,” he said. The loyal player was wrong. He was actually winning a few thousand bucks with almost every scratch.

According to the big winner, his ticket revealed multiple $5,000 and $10,000 prizes but his numbers didn’t match any of the winning numbers. He thought he had a non-winning ticket but then he saw the “WIN ALL” symbol. That meant he won every prize on the ticket and it all added up to $200,000.

“It was a great feeling,” he said after his win.

He plans to pay off bills, including student loans, and use the rest towards an anniversary gift for his wife. The convenience store employee likes to spend time with his kids.“

The inaugural SilverVox Film + Music Festival takes over historic Downtown Frederick from June 18–21 with 125+ films, live music, talks, 10+ walkable venues, and 4 days of creative energy.

Don’t miss live performances from Frederick native and American Idol finalist Rae Boyd, alongside fellow American Idol finalist Jesse Findling. Plus a centerpiece Saturday night performance at the Weinberg Center for the Arts featuring Cults, DIIV, and Kishi Bashi.
