Mountain View Diner, located at 1300 W. Patrick St. in Frederick, has permanently closed after 26 years of serving the community.

The restaurant announced the news on social media Thursday, September 3, thanking customers and staff for their loyalty and support throughout more than two decades in business.

The diner had already been closed for roughly two months prior to the permanent closure announcement. On July 8, Mountain View Diner said it was temporarily closing until further notice because of issues involving the building’s roof.

Over the years, Mountain View Diner offered a mix of classic American diner favorites alongside Greek and Italian dishes. The restaurant was also known for serving breakfast throughout the day and offering a wide selection of desserts.

In its final message to the community, the restaurant said it was sharing the closure “with a heavy heart” and expressed gratitude to everyone who had been part of its 26-year run.

The restaurant has not shared additional details about what ultimately led to the decision to permanently close.

I-70 Golf Range along East Patrick Street in Frederick has permanently closed, marking another major change at the property where a professional cricket stadium is proposed.

Back in April 2025, we let you know about plans for a proposed cricket stadium at the Gateway Property along East Patrick Street. Now, more than a year later, the project has taken another significant step forward.

The Frederick City Council voted 5–1 on August 6 to rezone 24.33 acres of the Gateway Property from General Commercial to Institutional for a Special Events Center. The new zoning can allow a venue of up to 25,000 seats, although Washington Freedom’s current concept calls for approximately 10,000 (including 5,000 fixed seats and 5,000 lawn seats).

The approval does not mean construction is beginning immediately. This was a rezoning approval, and the proposed stadium still faces additional design, permitting, transportation and other implementation steps before construction could move forward.

With I-70 Golf Range now permanently closed, another visible change is taking place at the Gateway Property as plans for the proposed cricket venue continue to progress.

We will continue following the project as new details are released.

The new restaurant officially opened its doors on Monday, August 31, taking over the former Noodles & Company space.

Big Greek Cafe, which was founded in Maryland in 2009, serves fast-casual Mediterranean favorites including gyros, souvlaki, kabobs, salads, pitas, and house-made dips.

The Westview Promenade restaurant marks the chain’s second Frederick County location, joining its Urbana restaurant, which opened in 2022.

Spirit Halloween is set to return to Frederick for the 2026 Halloween season, this time setting up shop in the former Sears space at Francis Scott Key Mall.

The seasonal retailer, known for temporarily taking over vacant storefronts and filling them with Halloween costumes, decorations, animatronics and other spooky merchandise, operates pop-up locations across the country each fall.

Spirit Halloween has popped up in several vacant retail spaces around Frederick in recent years, including the former Bed Bath & Beyond on Urbana Pike in 2023 and the former JOANN Fabric & Crafts on W. Patrick Street last year.

We’ll share additional details and opening information as they become available.
