We have been dogsitting for years now and love it! Hi all! I came to the USA from Germany in 2010. I always loved dogs and nature and started walking my neighbors dogs when I was about 8 years old. I am so blessed to have turned my passion into my job. Now I board dogs and offer doggie daycare. Dogs are amazing!

Velcro dogs aren't inherently unhappy, but their extreme need for constant closeness often stems from underlying issues like anxiety, boredom, lack of confidence, or poor socialization, leading to distress (separation anxiety) when alone and potentially disrupting their well-being and the owner's life. While affectionate, true "velcro" behavior becomes unhealthy when it prevents the dog from relaxing independently, causing stress for both dog and owner, and can manifest as destructive behaviors or excessive whining when separated.

When it's healthy vs. unhealthy:
Healthy Closeness: A dog wanting to be near you while you relax is normal pack behavior and a sign of bonding.
Unhealthy Clinginess (Not Happy): The dog can't settle in another room, panics when you leave, or displays distress when you return.

Solutions (to improve their happiness):
Train Independence: Teach them to be comfortable in a crate or another room with rewards.
Provide Jobs/Enrichment: Give them puzzle toys, training sessions, or physical exercise to build confidence and reduce focus on you.
Create Space: Gradually create distance during the day, even if they can't see you.
Professional Help: A trainer or vet can help manage severe anxiety.

We had many visitors over Thanksgiving 🙂
Chihuahua Louie enjoyed spending time with his little buddies. Oakley the Golden Retriever was playful as always and Sunny the Shiba Inu enjoyed her company.
🇩🇪 Wir hatten viele Besucher über Thanksgiving. Louie genoß seine Zeit mit seinen kleinen Freunden. Oakley spielte mit Sunny.
