Dakotafire Media

Dakotafire Media Dakotafire Media, LLC, is a mission-driven publishing, creative services, and consulting company that can bring a spark to your next project.

Dakotafire Media, LLC, was established in 2011 as a unique publishing company. It had the ambitious goal of sparking a revival in the Dakotas and beyond through innovative journalism that sparked conversations about what was happening and what was possible in rural communities. The magazine ceased publication in January 2017. Since then, Dakotafire Media has focused on using its skills to help peo

ple and businesses tell their stories, make meaningful connections, and move closer to their goals through a variety of services: publishing, writing, graphic design, media consulting, and conversation facilitation. This new service-oriented focus is an outgrowth of the purpose that was at the heart of Dakotafire Media when it was founded and still guides it today: Helping people and communities—especially those in rural places—thrive.

Hi, all—somebody apparently suggested changing the hours for Dakotafire Media to “permanently closed.” The business shifted focus after we stopped publishing the magazine, but it’s still open! Call or email me for your writing, editing, graphic design, or media consulting needs.

File this under “It’s a small world”: I got to talking with my neighbor here in the exhibition hall at the South Dakota Festival of Books, and thought his name, David Pichaske, sounded familiar. I picked up a book he edited and realized I had quoted it in my very first editorial for Dakotafire! How did we end up right next to each other?!

"I think all of us should look at how we can help our communities wherever we are. Even when we live in big cities, our communities are often small. Church, neighborhood, school, homeschool, whatever ... Do I bring my widened view to those communities?"

Thanks for the review of Sky Theater, Jenny Hahn!

I have been to South Dakota once, on route from Kansas, where I grew up, to Washington, where I live now. We stayed near the Black Hills and saw Mt. Rushmore, but only had a day to spare there. It wasn’t too different from Nebraska and Kansas, both familiar to me from many long drives across, but ...

It's time to GO LOCAL!

We are pleased to announce that Wendy Royston and Heidi Marttila-Losure have joined forces to create a new venture called Go Local!

Go Local's goal is creating meaningful experiences between local businesses and the community-minded people who want to support them through content that's innovative, informative, interesting, and fun.
That content includes stories, photos, display ads, directory listings, contests and more.

Our first project is publishing the print Summer 2018 Go Local Directory. At least 10,000 copies of this beautiful printed directory will be distributed at travel information centers, tourist destinations, retail businesses and restaurants throughout South Dakota.

You can sign up online at happygolocal.biz/rates. Don't delay—the deadline to get into the summer print directory is March 31!
