This morning was heavy 💔❤️ on 99.9 WFRE as we said goodbye to a true legend, Tom Whalen, and to the Free Country Wake Up Crew as we’ve known it for so many years, alongside his 20+ year co-host, partner-in-crime, and work wife, Dianah Gibson 🎙️✨

There were tears 😢, laughter 😂, hugs 🤗, and so many surprise visits from friends who stopped by to share stories, memories, and love for a show that’s been part of Frederick mornings for decades ☀️❤️

This wasn’t just a radio show — it was family 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦. It was routine. It was comfort. It was home.

Mornings in Frederick will never be the same 💙🎶

Feeling all the love this week ❤️

Tom Whalen has been soaking up some incredible surprises from around the community during his final week on Free Country 99.9 WFRE’s Free Country Wake Up Crew. Today was extra special when Frederick County Council President Brad Young stopped by to present Tom with a certificate recognizing the countless mornings he’s helped make better — bringing laughs, music, and company to so many commutes over the years.

We are going to miss him more than words can say. Thank you, Tom, for everything 💙🎙️
