The Fredericksburg Independent School District announced its new superintendent as Dr. Calvin Bowers.

Fredericksburg ISD is proud to announce Dr. Calvin Bowers as the Lone Finalist for the Superintendent position.

Dr. Bowers currently serves as Superintendent of Kenedy ISD, where he has led continued progress in academics, financial management, school safety, and facilities. His experience includes leading a successful bond election, strengthening college, career, and military readiness outcomes, and expanding opportunities for students through dual credit and career and technical education programs.

Throughout the selection process, the Fredericksburg ISD Board of Trustees placed a strong emphasis on leadership that reflects the district’s values and long-term direction. Dr. Bowers’ background and experience align with the direction of the district, particularly in areas of student opportunity, staff support, and responsible planning for the future. The Board also expressed excitement about welcoming Dr. Bowers, his wife Rachel, and their future Billies.

“Dr. Bowers is a genuine leader who demonstrates a clear commitment to students, staff, families, and the community,” said Matt Seidenberger. “We are confident in his experience and excited about the future ahead. He understands the importance of being present, building trust, and delivering the very best for our students and staff. We believe he desires and looks forward to the opportunity for him and his family to be part of Fredericksburg.”

Dr. Bowers also expressed his interest in Fredericksburg ISD and the opportunity to serve the community:
“Fredericksburg ISD is a place where tradition, pride, and community run deep,” said Dr. Bowers. “I am excited to serve as Superintendent, to honor that legacy while leading the district into its future.”

Due to the wet weather, the Easter Fires Pageant, scheduled for tonight at 8 p.m. at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds race track, has been canceled, organizers just announced.

The Fredericksburg Dance Hall Night, scheduled for 7-11 p.m. tonight at the Adelsverein Halle at Marktplatz, is still planned to go on as scheduled. Live music will be by Dan West and his band.

Gillespie County Judge Daniel Jones has suspended the burn ban for Gillespie County as of 11:45 a.m. today. Jones consulted with the Gillespie County Fire Marshal and the consensus of the county's fire departments. Jones said there may be inconsistent conditions across the county due to variations in rainfall, so all persons are advised to be aware of burning conditions in one's area and use extreme caution when burning.
