Mad Averroes: Manuscriptions on Music from Karl Neice
Rumblings, grumblings, crumblings and humblings from an erstwhile UW Daily postpunk columnist and former "production angel" at The Rocket. Plus a lifetime of reviews and essays about popular music.
PuffBunny Records Sampler 2024
This impressive collection exemplifies PuffBunny’s 15-year mission to bring a tribe of excellent songwriting singers and players together to lay down heartfelt original songs in a live-format celebration of the American country folk blues tradition.
The brainchild of Taylor Pie, aka Susan Taylor (founding member of ’60s hitmaking folkies, the Pozo Seco Singers) and longtime fan and friend Kathy Harrison, this collection is at times lighthearted and whimsical or densely meaningful, and always performed and recorded beautifully whether in the studio or in live performance.
Standouts include Michael O’Connor’s “Throw a Nickel” and “Homesick Boy,” Greg Whitfield’s “Martin’s Song” (from the perspective of a prized but seldom-played guitar!), George Ensle’s “Knee Deep in a River,” Ruby Lovett’s lovely rendition of Pie’s “They Don’t Know” and the Michael Hearne-Susan Gibson-Monica Smart song, “Evergreen” by Shake Russell & Michael Hearne. And it all ends gloriously with Pie’s “Peace Within.”

Legacy Folk and Acoustic Music Company PuffBunny Records Releases Two-Disc CD Sampler - Available now!
PuffBunny Records is an independent label that aims to capture one-of-a-kind acoustic performances in time – either live in front of an audience or in a studio environment: to preserve and make them available to the public. To celebrate its more than 15-year history, the label has just released a two-disc PuffBunny Records 2024 Sampler that is also available online for streamlining and downloading.
PuffBunny Records (puffbunnyrecords.com) was initially launched in 2007 as a vehicle to share the music of Taylor Pie (Susan Taylor), a Tennessee-based traveling folk minstrel and American artist who helped form the Pozo Seco Singers with Don Williams in the early 1960s. She has been a solo singer-songwriter and musician since the folk group disbanded. Many notable artists have covered her songs, and she stars in the award-winning music documentary “Nobody Famous.”
The Texas-based label has also shared the music of artists whom Pie and Kathy Harrison, her friend and business partner, admire and recognize for the folk thread that runs through their songs. In addition to Pie, artists featured on the PuffBunny Records 2024 Sampler include Ruby Lovett, George Ensle, Shake Russell & Michael Hearne with Mike Roberts, Michael O’Connor, Jack Saunders, Greg Whitfield, Allen Reynolds, Jeff Plankenhorn, Renfree Isaacs, and Debbie Nims.
