After nearly 50 years of service, Madison County Senior Center will say goodbye next Friday, on Oct. 31 under months of budget cuts from federal and local sources.

The center, which functions like a restaurant and social hub for hundreds of young and old alike, is part of a larger chain facing problems in rural Missouri.

Aging Matters, which oversees 32 southeast Missouri nutrition centers, suffered cuts from a faulty census-based funding system, and from reduced Medicaid reimbursements.
