Just so everyone knows, I've decided that I am planning to vote no on both referendums Nov 5th in Fredonia. In case anyone wants to know why, there are two BIG reasons.
First, the school already has a slush fund (and yeah they will be angry that I called it that) of more than 4 million dollars, and they still are very unclear about what it's for. The post card makes it out that this will be spent on hiring and retaining staff. The website makes it clear its about maintaining things and retaining staff. Is that consistent? If it raises questions, it's not a good idea. In my opinion this isn't about the kids, nor does it translate into better test scores.
Over on the village board side I'll be voting NO because at the worst time for inflation that we've ever seen in this country, the village has spent every dime they can get. The village inked the deal to put the taxpayer on the hook BEFORE they had the money.
If you watch the board meetings you'll hear one trustee admit that we'll be on the hook for this money should the referendum not pass. What does that mean exactly? I don't know but I don't like it.
Is it taxation without representation. In my opinion yes, absolutely.
The more into the "weeds" you get the more questionable it is.
I am all for paramedic services and I have a hard time saying "NO" to this because I understand the need and the truth is, the paramedic services will not be "fixed" immediately anyway but we will spend the money. We're fixing things that aren't broken.
There is still a giant problem under Milwaukee street (the failing culvert) that could fail at any time, how's that going to get paid for? New wastewater treatment upgrades which are mandated by the federal and state government, where is that money coming from?
Why would anyone agree to simply fork over another 600 maybe 700 a year for this? VOTE NO, ON BOTH. Save yourself the money, you're going to need it.
If you agree with me, share this and like it. If not, tell me why...
