Congratulations to the Beat’s Kara Aland and Riley Tokar who previously won first place in the Pennsylvania Press Club state competition, and automatically qualifying for the national contest. Their Cafe 116 video ultimately ended with an honorable mention for the National Federation of Press Women.

Today was take your kid to work day, and the Bulldog Beat Team had a few guests to show around! The kids enjoyed learning about the class, making graphics, and even being on the show. Make sure to check out today’s OffBeat and see how well the kids did!

The Pennsylvania Press Club announced the winners in its 2025 annual journalism contest for high school students. Christopher Denkovich and the Beat’s Lainey Tuszynski placed 2nd overall in the video feature story, and the Beat’s Kara Aland and Riley Tokar took first. This also means that Aland and Tokar’s video will now go up against all of the first place winners nationally with the winner of the national contest being announced next month. Congratulations to all, and best of luck to Kara and Riley!

On April 1st, the beat had three of their own compete at the Pennsylvania School Press Association Student Journalism Competition. Kara Aland, Riley Tokar, and Brooke Stragand all advanced to the finals after the regional competition that was held at Slippery Rock on November first. Aland and Tokar competed in the features category and Stragand competed in the news category. The videos are due in one week, and we will have the results for you when we receive them! Good luck girls 🎥

Several members of Freedom Focus Media have been named winners in the Student Keystone Media Awards, sponsored by the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association: The Beat’s Kara Aland and Riley Tokar earned first place in the Broadcast Feature category for their piece on Cafe 116, while Chris Denkovich and Lainey Tuszynski took second place in the same category!

Broadcast students, Kara Aland and Riley Tokar, are advancing to the Student Journalism Competition state finals after winning the Broadcast Feature Package contest at the Regional level in October at Slippery

PSPA State Finals will be held at Penn State University’s main campus on April 1.

Today, three broadcast members were able to attend Slippery Rock University for the Pennsylvania School Press Association’s (PSPA) Fall Regional Student Journalism Competition. The competitors will find out if they qualified for states in January. We will keep you updated!
