A Swedish YouTuber spent six months accomplishing what he calls "probably the worst thing I've ever done, and maybe the coolest." Mattias Krantz rescued an octopus from a Portuguese fishery, named him Takoyaki (Tako for short), and set out to teach him piano.

The journey involved building a custom underwater keyboard with levers Tako could pull with his tentacles, plus a "crab elevator" system that lowered his favorite treat closer with every note played.

After countless failed experiments and breakthroughs, Tako learned to play a six-note progression, and Krantz now accompanies him on guitar during jam sessions. "I can't believe I sit here and play with an octopus," Krantz told The Washington Post.

His YouTube video documenting the process has over 6 million views. Marine scientists note Tako is likely performing for treats rather than appreciating music, but the viral sensation has sparked conversations about octopus intelligence.
