From The New York Times

"Every year since 1988, the United States has marked Dec. 1 as World AIDS Day, when people mourn those who died of the disease, honor efforts to contain the epidemic and raise awareness among the general public.

Not this year.

The State Department this month instructed employees and grantees not to use funds from the United States government to commemorate the day. The directive is part of a broader policy “to refrain from messaging on any commemorative days, including World AIDS Day,” according to an email viewed by The New York Times.

Employees and grantees may still “tout the work” being done through various programs “to counter this dangerous disease and other infectious diseases around the world,” the email said. And they may attend events related to the commemoration.

But they should “refrain from publicly promoting World AIDS Day through any communication channels, including social media, media engagements, speeches or other public-facing messaging.”

The City of Fresno is soliciting proposals for programs and services that will offer support and services for Fresno’s LGBTQ+ citizens. The source of funding for this NOFA is the City of Fresno’s General Fund.

As part of an effort to increase involvement and applications of our local LGBTQ+ serving organizations, Dr. Katherine Fobear (she/her) from the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department is hosting a Grant Proposal Workshop and Brainstorming.

Come share and work on your grant idea or proposal for the upcoming City of Fresno grant for community and LGBTQ+-serving organizations. This is an opportunity to learn more about the funding available and how to build a competitive proposal.

Open to organizations that have previously received funding from the City of Fresno. We are particularly interested in organizations that have not previously applied for or received funding. You do not need to have a completed proposal. Open to organizations that will require a fiscal sponsor in order to apply for a grant.

Come learn, and let us work together so that everyone has the opportunity to successfully apply!

Donate by Nov. 30, 2025.
Join the Rainbow Alumnx & Allies Club in celebrating the Class of 2026! We’re raising funds all month long to sponsor rainbow regalia — medals, stoles, and tassels — so our LGBTQ2+ grads and allies can walk the Rainbow Graduation Celebration stage with pride. So far, we have raised $2,625. With your support, we’ll reach our $5,000 goal. https://crowdfunding.fresnostate.edu/project/47910
