“As most folks know, I’m Mike Karbassi, city Council President with your Unfiltered audience only exclusive city council update. We have a council meeting this Thursday starting at 9:00 AM. We can talk about the agenda. It’s pretty packed, but here’s the thing. The elephant in the room is SEDA. There is a 4:30 PM hearing. Again, we moved it to the afternoon so more people can participate. At 4:30 PM hearing on the Southeast development area. You may have read about it in different publications. You may have heard some very, in my opinion, incendiary quotes about SEDA, but here’s the reality. The council is not, I want to reiterate, not on a blanket level approving the southeast development area on Thursday. That is not happening. That was never on the agenda, but unfortunately, some groups have resorted to fear mongering to get people to show up, and I think that’s very irresponsible.
Let me tell you what we are potentially doing. We’re going to have a hearing, we’re going to hear items, we’re going to hear a presentation from staff. What is being requested is that the mayor has proposed something called South SEDA. He’s proposed changes to the plan. We would give direction to the administration to go back, do their research, run the financials, and come back with a presentation on a new version. That includes what’s called South SEDA. This is a large parcel. It’ll move housing to another area of the plan. This parcel is contiguous with the city, meaning it’s adjacent to the city, and what it would do potentially is open up more jobs, potentially good industrial jobs, hopefully some med tech, which would be great. Just good paying jobs so people can afford housing, keeping people in Fresno rather than moving away to other cities, moving to Madera County and taking their tax dollars with them because that’s really what’s crippled our city and our growth for a long time, and our ability to pay for the bills to subsidize the inner city.”
