Huaynos Floridos
Out May 8th
Shika Shika presents *Huaynos Floridos*, the third album by Argentine artist, researcher, and educator Gregorio Quirós.
In this new work, Quirós delves into huayno as an expanding field, exploring its possibilities through an instrumentation that overflows the boundaries of the Andes. Colombian chonta marimbas, Mexican jaranas, Argentine percussion and bass drums, along with other Latin American instruments, shape a sonic palette that travels the continent from north to south, proposing a renewed, bold, and contemporary timbre.
The album combines reinterpretations of traditional repertoire with original compositions, forming a detailed and carefully crafted body of work that approaches Latin American folklore as a continuous territory. In this vision, the continent’s musical geography is understood as a connected network, traversed by a common axis: the Andes mountain range.
Recorded over several years in his own workspace, *Huaynos Floridos* was co-produced with producers IDOSÔIDOS (Gustavo Minian) and Oídos Contentos (Manuel Schaller), and features the participation of numerous collaborators who expand the project’s scope. The result is an album that brings together multiple identities and traditions in a single sonic direction, affirming an integrative perspective on Latin American music.
