A couple months ago, I wrote about Weyessa McAlister, a DC resident who is providing clean water to the village where he grew up in Ethiopia. Weyessa just came back from Ethiopia after visiting the water well that has been built in his hometown. Here are some of the images from his visit to his native land.

This is the story of Weyessa McAlister. Born and raised in Aje, a small village located south of Shashemene in Ethiopia, Weyessa was a toddler when he saw his father and brother die from waterborne illness.

The former Trinity College student, who came to the US after being adopted as a teenager, is now leading an effort to provide clean water for the village where he grew up.

Weyessa McAlister is a long way away from where he grew up, but he is still giving back to his village in Ethiopia.

Jamal Osman travelled to Tigray, Ethiopia and spoke to the women who have been r***d by soldiers amid the conflict in the region.

"My name is Mimi. I'm deaf, and we are ተኪ Teki, the first paper bag company run by deaf women in the world. We use Ethiopian sign language to fight plastic bags... and it works! Together we have already replaced more than a million plastic bags.

Since my childhood at the orphanage, I always felt a need to help my deaf sisters. Being unable to hear is a daily challenge in Ethiopia. We have the right to be independent and earn a salary like everyone else.

Making paper bags has changed our lives. We convince people to ditch plastic bags in sign language better than other companies do with their voices. We feel so proud, and there is no sign to describe this feeling.

But it's by far not enough. So many deaf remain excluded, and now we are burdened by a conflict in the north of Ethiopia. We can't let them down! Teki's battle against plastic is far from over. We need your help to scale up and create more jobs! "
