City OKs first of two budget amendments

Pearland City Council on Dec. 15 approved the first of two planned budget amendments for the fiscal year, which began Oct. 1 and runs through the end of September 2026. The amendment includes $2.7 million in general fund carryovers -- goods or services approved and ordered in fiscal year 2025 but not received before a new fiscal year began. Enterprise fund carryovers total approximately $5.66 million, including $3.51 million for Reflection Bay project repair disc filters. About $4 million of the carryovers are replacement vehicles not yet delivered.

The Pearland Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon scheduled Jan. 15 will be the 2026 State of the Chamber Address featuring board chair Tina LaVert and Chamber CEO Jim Johnson. The Alvin ISD Education Foundation will hold its annual Turtle Race and Family Fun Run on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Meridiana Adventure Cove. The event draws more than 20 vendors; participants purchase tickets for numbered plastic turtles that are released into the water -- the first to cross the finish line wins. Registration for the Fun Run is $25 to $35 before Jan. 15. Software may fine tune parents’ control of library books

Pearland ISD parents may soon be able to limit subject matter of library books their children access at school. “In the parent portal of (software provider) Follett Destiny, a parent can search the title, author or subject and it will pull all of the books, but for the parent to limit what their child can check out, they have to individually check each book, which can be tedious,” Superintendent Larry Berger explained during the December board meeting....
