Overall, PISD scored 19 percent above the state average in students meeting grade level in English language arts and 20 percent above in mathematics. Still, seventh-grade math scores have dipped in the last two years, staff reported, possibly a result of advanced seventh graders switching to taking the eighth-grade test....

Texas Parks and Wildlife announced that Texas coastal waters will be closed to crabbing from February 21 to March 2 for an annual volunteer crab trap cleanup. For the past 23 years, in February, volunteers have searched and removed abandoned traps that foul shrimpers’ nets, snag anglers’ lines, and create unsightly views. Volunteers and Texas Parks and Wildlife staff have hauled off nearly 44,000 derelict traps, saving an estimated 720,000 blue crabs. Friendswood City Council moved forward with plans to issue $20.4 million in water and sewer system revenue bonds, marking the first major utility debt issuance since 2021.
