Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones when asked on 105.3 The Fan about what are fair expectations for this team: “I think it’s to really improve every week, that should be the expectation. I know they’re gonna set a higher bar for themselves to go faster.

“Certainly I think we can improve. We did do some really good things on the defensive side of the ball in terms of getting the ball out. We just didn’t get it.

“… I do think it’s realistic that we will continue to improve on the defensive side of the ball. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to have high, high expectations for the offensive side.

Cowboys DC Christian Parker on rookie OLB Malachi Lawrence: “Me and him had this conversation (Wednesday), it’s like, ‘Man, just go.’ Young players have more success when they just go. ‘Make your mistakes on the run.’ His mistakes belong to me. They belong to me. If he has (a mistake) or we needed him to do something, that’s on me. We want him to just go and just play fast.

“When he does that and he has a clear mind and he’s just going and punching the clock, it looks really good. When he’s thinking too much and you can tell by his feet being hesitant, that’s when you have issues. I think for him, and that’s any young player, it’s just playing fast and going, being unapologetic about your play style and letting me make the mistakes.”

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer on 105.3 The Fan this morning on the emotional fourth-quarter sideline interaction Sunday night between LB Jaishawn Barham and DC Christian Parker:

“You got a young player in Jaishawn that we think is going to be a dynamic player. He’s so talented. He’s so physical. Frustration came out a little bit. That’s all part of the process. You talk about a guy like Jaishawn Barham, he’s been through tough times like this before, and there’s no question, you watch the way he’s practicing this week, I have no question he’s gonna play great.

“A part of being a coach, part of being a leader of these young men is when things aren’t going well, you’re able to have real conversations and sometimes those conversations are interpreted in different ways by different people that aren’t involved in the conversation.”
