August 18th was a very special day for poetry and music lovers, as the legendary Gulzar Sahab celebrated his 92nd birthday 🎂🎉✨❤️

For me, Gulzar Sahab has always been so much more than a poet.
He is my favorite poet, shayar, lyricist, and storyteller 📖✍️🎶—someone whose words have the rare ability to touch the heart 💖, awaken memories 🕊️, and make us pause and feel 🌿✨

This post is a small tribute to him, as I read one of his beautiful poems 📜🌸. His words have been a part of so many moments in my life 🌙💭, and every time I read them, they seem to say something new 🌟💫

Ijaazat — a film where poetry, music and emotion came together beautifully. ❤️

Mera Kuchh Saamaan went on to win Gulzar the National Award for Best Lyrics and Asha Bhosle the National Award for Best Female Playback Singer. Gulzar also won the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist, while Ijaazat won Filmfare for Best Story.

But here’s the question that still makes you pause…

🎼 R. D. Burman composed the music for the entire film — yet he won no award for Ijaazat.

Was that fair?

Partition changed the course of the film industry. O.P. Nayyar came to India from Lahore, Noor Jehan moved to Pakistan, and a new generation of voices and stars began to emerge. 🎶🌟

Lata Mangeshkar would soon redefine playback singing 🎤✨, Dilip Kumar tasted early success 🎭, and Mohammed Rafi was on his way to becoming one of India’s greatest voices. 🎶❤️
