After relocating to NYC, he was a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant in 1984, studying with trumpeter/composer Frank Gordon and completed his first large work, The Aquarian for alto saxophone and chamber orchestra. While in NYC, he also performed with a host of current jazz stars such as pianist/composer Geri Allen and trombonist Robin Eubanks among many others. After eight years in NYC, Fielder moved to Los Angeles and studied with alto legend, Charles McPherson. A shout out to my beloved wife, Patricia Jordan Fielder, from last night as we strolled through Dallas’ Bishop Arts District! In 15 years of marriage, 17 years together, this year has been a very tough one for us, starting with the destruction of our house and all of our possessions in the wildfire. This has been compounded by leaving Altadena, CA, a place we both loved with our full hearts, and moving across country to Frisco, TX, to begin a new life, starting from scratch. This woman has been by my side through unimaginable struggles and has not flinched one millimeter! I have truly been blessed with her love and appreciate her more than anyone can ever know!💥

Wednesday night in Dallas, TX, I played my first notes in public, sitting in with the great Shelley Carrol at the legendary Revelers Hall in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas! I have finally recovered enough from the devastating loss of the Altadena wildfire to start concentrating on music again. It also feels good to be healthy enough to play my baritone full force again! Musically, I’m in a whole new paradigm! I can’t tell you how much I miss my quartet of the last 30 years. I am starting over and leaping into the unknown! How it will turn out, nobody knows! Thanks to Shelley for letting me be heard, and Patricia for helping me get to this point and for taking pictures!💥
