NC SWIFT WATER, SEARCH & RESCUE, AND HAZMAT TEAMS LEAD THE NATION

Leaders from North Carolina’s Swift Water Rescue, Urban Search & Rescue, and Hazardous Materials Regional Response Teams recently met in Raleigh at the State Emergency Operations Center for their quarterly leadership meeting.
Discussions focused on policy, procedures, equipment, and training initiatives, ensuring continued readiness across the state.
North Carolina’s specialized response teams continue to serve as a national model, with other states and countries looking to these programs for guidance in developing their own capabilities.
Recognition & Awards:
* Abby Moore – Recipient of the NCEM Director’s Award for her service with Hazmat RRT-6 (Asheville). She has rejoined NC Emergency Management as a program coordinator.
* Chief A.C. Rich – Awarded the Hazmat RRT Technical Advisory Committee Achievement Award for over 20 years of service to state hazmat operations.
* Chief Robert Hand – Also received the Technical Advisory Committee Achievement Award after serving 5 years as Team Leader of RRT-4 (Raleigh). He is stepping down following a promotion within the Raleigh Fire Department.
North Carolina’s Search & Rescue and Hazmat teams remain fully prepared and ready to respond to incidents across the state.
