The Call:
Units are on scene of a natural gas leak in the area of Raleigh Street and Hwy 55 in Angier.

Fireground Operations:
Angier Fire Department and law enforcement are actively working the scene. The incident is expected to last for an extended period.

Impact:
• Significant traffic delays
• Possible road closures
• Extended on-scene operations

Response:
Motorists are advised to:
• Avoid the area if possible
• Seek alternate routes
• Expect delays

Context:

Wake County Medic 24 Response

Wake County Medic 24 was observed running southbound on N Main St in Fuquay, responding to a reported medical emergency in Holly Springs.

Notably, the unit’s siren produced some unusual tones as it approached an intersection—possibly cycling through patterns or experiencing a brief irregularity.

As always, please yield to emergency vehicles and stay alert when units are operating in traffic.

🔵 INCIDENT DETAILS

Single-story, single-wide residence with smoke and fire venting from the roof on arrival.

Fire was located in the attic space between the ceiling and roof.

Crews deployed a 250’ attack line with a smooth bore nozzle through the front door for fire suppression.

A ladder company conducted primary search and ceiling pull, allowing hose streams to access and extinguish the attic fire.

NC SWIFT WATER, SEARCH & RESCUE, AND HAZMAT TEAMS LEAD THE NATION
Date: April 18, 2026

Leaders from North Carolina’s Swift Water Rescue, Urban Search & Rescue, and Hazardous Materials Regional Response Teams recently met in Raleigh at the State Emergency Operations Center for their quarterly leadership meeting.

Discussions focused on policy, procedures, equipment, and training initiatives, ensuring continued readiness across the state.

North Carolina’s specialized response teams continue to serve as a national model, with other states and countries looking to these programs for guidance in developing their own capabilities.

Recognition & Awards:

* Abby Moore – Recipient of the NCEM Director’s Award for her service with Hazmat RRT-6 (Asheville). She has rejoined NC Emergency Management as a program coordinator.
* Chief A.C. Rich – Awarded the Hazmat RRT Technical Advisory Committee Achievement Award for over 20 years of service to state hazmat operations.
* Chief Robert Hand – Also received the Technical Advisory Committee Achievement Award after serving 5 years as Team Leader of RRT-4 (Raleigh). He is stepping down following a promotion within the Raleigh Fire Department.

North Carolina’s Search & Rescue and Hazmat teams remain fully prepared and ready to respond to incidents across the state.

INCIDENT UPDATE – WAKE COUNTY

Initial alerts to Wake County Fire units indicated a possible active shooter at a local mall.

Further investigation determined this was NOT an active shooter incident.

The situation stemmed from a dispute between a patron and a store clerk inside the mall.

At this time, there is no confirmed active shooter or ongoing threat related to this incident.
