🚨 Wake County EMS Changing How They Use Lights & Sirens 🚨

Wake County EMS is planning a major shift in how emergency calls are handled. Right now, about 80% of 911 calls get a lights-and-sirens response — but under a new plan, that number could drop to around 20%.

The goal is to reduce crashes and keep EMS crews safer, since there have already been 21 accidents this year involving emergency responses. But the trade-off? Some non-life-threatening calls could see response times stretch up to an hour.

County leaders are still reviewing the plan, and it may not fully roll out until 2026.

What do you think — should EMS reduce lights and sirens to make the roads safer, even if it means longer wait times? 🚑💭

According to Wake County, EMS has had 21 accidents when responding with lights and sirens since January of this year.

🚨 LOCAL HERO IN RECOVERY – RALEIGH FIREFIGHTER INJURED ON SECOND JOB 🚨

Our prayers and full support go out to Raleigh Firefighter Michael Rhodes, who was struck by a hit-and-run driver while working his second job with a tree service.

Michael was reaching for a branch when a vehicle went around stopped traffic and hit him. He doesn’t remember the impact — only waking up surrounded by first responders. Thanks to his helmet, his life was spared. 🙏

He’s now facing a long road to recovery but says he’s “blessed to be where I am.”
A $3,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the driver, who was operating a Chrysler 200 with passenger-side damage and a missing mirror.

Let’s rally around Michael and his family like the brotherhood and sisterhood we are. 💪❤️

If you have any info that could help investigators, please contact local authorities or Crime Stoppers.

The Raleigh firefighter was working his second job for a tree-cutting service when a driver hit him and kept going.

🔥 Multiple Brush Fires Along NC 540 – Possible Arson Connection (Raleigh/NW Wake)

Multiple agencies responded this afternoon to a series of brush fires along NC 540 between Leesville and Glenwood. Early reports suggested possible arson or smoke bombs thrown from a vehicle, potentially linked to nearby protest activity.

Incident Summary:

Fires broke out along NC 540 near Leesville, Glenwood, and Capital Blvd.

Command post established on the Leesville Rd bridge over 540.

Units faced water supply challenges; tankers from Western Wake, Wake Forest, and New Hope were called.

Task forces organized under OPS 2, 4, 7, and 12. Raleigh’s TF worked the Gresham Lake/Capital area; OPS 12 used for staging.

Multiple small fires within a one-mile range; structures threatened near Ray Rd and Selkirk Dr.

NC Forestry and Raleigh Fire Chief (Car 1) responded. Drones and aircraft were briefly grounded; a plane later launched for aerial assessment.

540 westbound closures began at Falls of Neuse for rolling extinguishment operations.

Water points established behind Kohl’s at Brier Creek and at Falls Valley.

All reported fires have units on scene; most are contained or in mop-up with hotspot patrols continuing. Investigation ongoing into cause and connection to reported protest activity.
