We took the weekend off from training to visit Tampa for Gasparilla -

A packed day of golf cart rides, limousines, private boats, flowing booze and hundreds of beads, we took our competitive natures to a new level by fighting with everyone to see who could catch the most beads throughout the day.

We won, of course 😎

“Jiu Jitsu forges friendships in a way I’ve never known. Being involved in an art as intimate as this, where bodily connection is a must, the common cultural boundaries of personal space are broken. You will never see more hugs, high fives, and physical expressions of love than on the mats. Ultimately, this proves to be one of the most fulfilling aspects of our pursuit of mastery. Along the way, we learn to love others as we love ourselves.”

Justine is an avid outdoor enthusiast, aspiring writer and outspoken feminist. A Chicago native who loves to travel, she started training in jiu-jitsu when she moved to Florida and quickly fell in love with the sport. A j***y for adrenaline rushes, the physical and psychological challenges that jiu-jitsu presents keep her coming back for more. She combines her training with running, rock climbing, yoga, and the occasional hike in the flat Florida wilderness. As a result of her experiences on the mat, she is a strong proponent of martial arts as a vehicle for female empowerment and confidence.
