Lane closures on State Route 400 in Forsyth and Fulton Counties will take place starting on Sunday.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the closure is for a project that will construct new express lanes in both directions along 16-miles of the freeway.

Temporary lane closures will occur daily from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on SR 400 southbound and northbound from Shiloh Road to the I-285 interchange Monday through Friday.

SR 400 southbound from Holcomb Bridge Road to Abernathy Road will shut down Sunday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and exercise caution.

Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR) personnel rescued a trapped dog during Thursday's storm.

According to the department, squad 7A and engine 9A were called to help the black lab stuck in a ravine.

The dog was brought back to safety and even made it to the vet where it was cared for.

A man has been arrested on charges of murder and aggravated assault in Braselton.

Jackson County Jail records show that Stanley Pair, age 57, was arrested on Tuesday night, June 16. That arrest came less than two hours after Braselton Police said they responded to a shooting that left one person dead and another injured.

Jail records show Pair was arrested by Braselton Police officers.

Pair faces one count each of murder and aggravated assault. As of Friday afternoon, he remained in the Jackson County Jail without bond.

The GBI is assisting Braselton Police with the investigation into Tuesday night's shooting.

Multiple sources say U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is no longer pursuing the operation of detention facilities in Oakwood and Social Circle.

The City of Social Circle issued a statement on Thursday evening, June 18, saying it received confirmation from "multiple sources," including from within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS,) that plans to operate a facility there were no longer plans to operate a facility there. One of the sources the city cited was 10th District U.S. Congressman Mike Collins.

While the City of Oakwood has not issued any direct statements, reports by both the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the New York Times have cited that the warehouse on Atlanta Highway that DHS recently purchased was on a list of facilities ICE was planning to sell or hand off. Among that list were facilities in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Utah.

DHS issued a statement Friday morning.

"From day one, DHS has remained singularly focused on removing the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from the United States and is always evaluating the best methods to do so," DHS said. "These heinous criminals, once arrested, should be removed at lightning speed, not housed on American soil at the taxpayer's expense. DHS is moving swiftly to utilize EXISTING detention space with our state and county partners."

Friday, June 19, 2026 marks the official federal observance of the Juneteenth holiday, officially listed as a federal holiday since 2021. The holiday is celebrated in recognition of the day in 1865 when Union soldiers brought the news of freedom to enslaved Black people in Texas at the end of the Civil War in 1865.

The holiday has been celebrated by many for generations, but became more widely observed after being designated a federal holiday in 2021 by former President Joe Biden, who attended a Juneteenth event at a church in Galveston, Texas, the holiday’s birthplace.

Today, most federal government offices, the United States Postal Service, trading along stock exchanges and most federal and national banks are closed for the observance, as are most statewide government offices. Check with your local county and city government offices, regarding the observance. Shipping services such as FedEx and UPS, and most privately operated retail stores and grocery markets will be operating under normal business hours.

A Winder man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a sexual assault investigation that began in March 2025.

The Winder Police Department said Daniel Barrios Catalan, 47, entered a negotiated plea agreement in Barrow County Superior Court on May 29. Catalan pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault with intent to r**e and one count of false imprisonment.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Catalan was sentenced to 20 years, with 15 years to be served in prison, followed by 10 years of probation.

A positive rabies case has been identified in a wild animal found in Gillsville earlier this week.

The Georgia Department of Public Health says a raccoon found in the Hall County portion of Gillsville on Tuesday, June 16, tested positive for rabies. Officials are advising residents in the area to take precautions against potential contact with the disease.

"If you suspect that you or your animal(s) have been in contact with any rabid animal, or if you notice your pet displaying any symptoms of rabies, please immediately contact Hall County Animal Services," the health department said in a statement Thursday.
