AI made beautiful footage cheap. It made real customers expensive.

For twenty years, production polish was a proxy for investment. A beautifully lit interview signaled a company had spent real money, and spending real money signaled the company was real.

That proxy is gone. Anyone with a subscription can generate a gorgeous eight-second plate with perfect skin tones now.

What can't be synthesized is a specific person saying a specific true thing about what happened to them. Which is a reasonable explanation for why 87% of businesses now run testimonial video, and why three in four video marketers call it their top-performing asset.

But most testimonials still land flat — and the problem is almost never the lighting. It's usually that someone emailed the customer the questions a week in advance, and the customer, being considerate, prepared.

Nobody has ever been persuaded by "they were great to work with."

New on the blog — what separates a testimonial that converts from one that sounds coached.

The average marketing video used to run 168 seconds. It's now 76, and the projection for this year is under 40.

But the stat hides the interesting part: shorter isn't the same as smaller. Videos under a minute average a 52% engagement rate. Long videos still work fine when the topic earns it. What doesn't work is a three-minute brand film doing a fifteen-second job — and that's the mistake I see most often.

I wrote up the four things that always get cut when we compress a piece, and why that decision has to happen in the brief instead of in the edit.

Something happened in this year's upfronts that had never happened before: connected TV outsold primetime linear television. $17.73 billion against $16.98 billion.

Most teams reacted by moving money. That's the easy half.

The harder half is that CTV is bought like performance media — you can target by household, geography, income band, streaming app, and run six versions of a spot against six audience segments — but it's still being fed like broadcast. One hero spot, maybe a 15-second cutdown, into a channel built to reward variation.

New on the blog: what actually has to change in the creative, and why the fix is a different shot list rather than a bigger budget.

Everyone has AI now. 63% of video marketers are using it — which means the tool itself stopped being the edge. The advantage moved to taste, direction, and process: knowing what good looks like and how to get there. Here's how to build yours: https://miradorstudios.com/blog/ai-advantage-isnt-the-tool/

The best brand films of 2026 all do the same thing: they refuse to pick one medium. Live action melts into animation, products spin into 3D, type moves like a character. It's not a style fad — it's how brands are cutting through feeds where everything looks the same.

Why the mixed-media look works, and how a hybrid piece actually gets built:

One brand spent months on a lavish campaign film. Another shipped a joke in two hours. Both won July.

Absolut and Tabasco played the craft lane with a beautifully absurd bottle collab. Domino's answered Sony's digital-only PlayStation news with downloadable "pizza codes" — before the joke went cold.

The lesson for your brand: you need both lanes, and the middle is a trap.

Streaming TV advertising used to require an agency and a six-figure media buy. In 2026 it requires a good 30-second spot and about $50 a day.

U.S. connected TV ad spend hits ~$38 billion this year, and self-serve platforms now let local businesses geo-target households within 15-25 miles of their front door — with ad completion rates over 95%.

The catch? Your spot plays where the Super Bowl ads live. On the biggest screen in the house, cheap creative costs you credibility.

75% of marketing video this year is AI-generated or AI-assisted. So why does so much of it flop?

Because the brands winning with AI use it differently: AI handles the grunt work — cutdowns, captions, color matching, versioning — while humans keep the story, the strategy, and the faces on camera.

New on the Mirador blog: where AI belongs in your video pipeline, where it quietly kills performance, and the simple split that's working in 2026.

AI video is the most powerful new tool our industry has had in a generation. It can also make you look like everyone else — faster than ever before.

Our new post breaks down the difference: the brands winning with AI treat it as one department inside a real production — script, shoot, edit, sound — not a button that spits out "content."

Most brands walk away from a production day with one video.

Smart brands are walking away with six months of content — brand film, social cuts, vertical reels, testimonials, recruitment video, and B-roll. All from a single day on location.

We broke down exactly how to plan a shoot that multiplies your output, and why the math makes it one of the best investments in video marketing you can make.

Most brands walk away from a production day with one video. Here's how smart brands turn a single shoot into a full content library — and why the ROI math makes it obvious.
