Your 1st 100% Local Source to Gainesville's Events, Businesse Who and what is "The Gainesville City Guide"? Why?

First and foremost we're here because we love Gainesville, our community. Everything we do is to support Gainesville, the community, it's businesses, it's people, and it's economy. If you are looking to support our Local Gainesville Community,
Beware of copycat imitations owned and operated by companies, people, and or groups who are not local. By local we mean owned or operated by a company or i

ndividuals outside of Gainesville. We are 100% Gainesville oriented. Everything we do, services we purchase etc., come from within Gainesville. We DO NOT use companies such as graphic designers, consultants, printers, etc. that do not come from Gainesville. The dollars spent with local companies continue to circulate in the Gainesville economic structure and support it's growth, well being, and stability. Others would have you believe they are here to support our community, but the money they generate through your spending, do not completely remain in Gainesville and do little to support it's businesses or local economy. Yes, they pay taxes and employ local people but the profits they make leave our community. We support the "Shop Local" mentality in support of Local Businesses, the folks they employ, and the community they live in. Others are simply here to profit from our Community while saying they are here to support it. We provide a service to our community, bringing light to its events, cultures, businesses and interaction with it's residents, students, and visitors alike. We ARE completely locally owned and operated. Our employees live and work in our community. Any dollars spent with us, inevitably goes right back into Gainesville's Local Economy. Because Gainesville is our home and the community is our family. Simply put, the service we provide our city is a service of love. To support The Gainesville City Guide is to support our beautiful community 100%. As we celebrate the end of our first year here, we thank all those who continue to support us and we will always strive to do our very best for Gainesville. The city of Gainesville has much to offer, see, and do and we will continue to make them known as well as invite participation from it's citizens and visitors who are ultimately what makes Gainesville such a wonderful city to live, grow and play in.

It's that time of year again and Alachua county wants everyone to be prepared and to prepare early. When the storm is coming is not the time to start. Now is the time.

That time of year is two days away. This is a good time to look over all of these things.

City of Gainesville officials are not enacting a curfew at this time, but continue to urge neighbors to stay off the roads this evening and tomorrow. After storm passes, this will enable emergency responders to more quickly help neighbors in need, restore power to homes and street lights and clear debris from roadways.

1) Stay at home and shelter in place
2) Turn around, don't drown
3) Use generators in a well-ventilated area
4) Treat traffic signal outages as a four-way stop

Hurricane Milton Update #6: General Population and Special Needs Shelters Open; Uber Rides Available

Alachua County does not expect a storm impact today. There is no need for local residents to shelter today. The county is opening shelters today to accommodate our neighbors from the south who are evacuating.

Alachua County has opened three emergency shelters in response to Hurricane Milton, including two general population/pet-friendly shelters and one special needs shelter. We encourage residents impacted by the storm to seek alternative housing with friends, family, or short-term rentals. Shelters are intended as a last resort.

General Population/Pet-Friendly Shelters:

Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center
1028 NE 14th St., Gainesville
Easton-Newberry Sports Complex
24880 NW 16th Ave., Newberry

Please note that general population shelters do not provide cots or beds. Residents are advised to bring their own bedding and essential supplies, including:

Special dietary foods, baby food, diapers, and other child necessities
Prescription medications (with a small cooler for refrigeration if needed)
Spare clothing, personal hygiene items, and spare eyeglasses or contacts

Residents with pets should bring:

Basic pet supplies (collars, leashes, crates, carriers, towels, blankets, medications, food)
Veterinary records indicating vaccinations (animals without such records will be vaccinated upon intake)

Alachua County Animal Resources will have supplemental supplies on hand. For everyone’s safety, animals must remain properly restrained throughout their stay.

Special Needs Shelter:

Alachua County Senior Recreation Center
5701 NW 34th Blvd., Gainesville

Special needs shelters will provide one cot per patient, though we cannot guarantee cots for caregivers. Residents should bring their own bedding, prescription medications, dietary foods, spare clothing, personal care items, and identification. For transportation assistance to the special needs shelter, please call 352-955-2575. For more: https://www.alachuacountyready.com/incidents/milton/shelters
