🚨 NEW for Workshop #3! 🚨

We will have free light refreshments and gift card raffles throughout the evening for attendees.

For the raffle, we are going to prioritize gift cards from some of our LOCAL eateries in Gainesville.

Raffle Tickets will be handed out from 5:45 to 6:30pm. Winners will be drawn every 15 minutes starting at 6:30pm, with last drawing at 8pm.

📌TAG the restaurant you'd like to win a gift card to in the comments for a bonus entry-- we want to know what you want to get.
📌And TAG whoever you'd share a meal with at that restaurant if you win for another bonus entry.

And most importantly, please come to the workshop Monday, Sept 8, from 6-8pm! You need to be represented in Gainesville's future and this is where you can give us some feedback based on the drafted results of months of research.

Raffle winners must be present at the workshop to receive their gift card.

Today we celebrate Labor Day, created to honor the hardworking folks who keep our communities running.

Shoutout to City Staff who serve every day with a community first mentality, working behind the scenes to keep water and sewer moving in the right direction, to keep our city safe and clean, and who help make sure the lights stay on in city buildings.

Please see the attached holiday cart schedule and enjoy the day, Gainesville! 🇺🇸

Happy Labor Day, everyone 👷👷‍♀️🚧🦺

If you live on N Howeth St, Magnolia St, Elmwood St, or Hillside Dr, please note that your street will be closed at some point in September, specifically on the side that feeds into O'Neal St

We will be doing valley gutter work on those streets at their O'Neal intersections. O'Neal will REMAIN OPEN. The street closures will not impact O'Neal itself.

❓What's a "valley gutter" you ask?
✅Concrete valley gutters are shallow, U-shaped channels designed to collect and direct water away from the road surface. They are typically between two sections of pavement where water tends to accumulate, like at an intersection. Picture attached for reference.

Thank you for your patience while we work to get this project done as quickly as possible.

🛣️ Did you know? 🛣️

TxDOT uses Level of Service (or LOS) to assess current conditions and plan future improvements. For example, their study for US 82 (published in July 2024) mentions that most of the highway operates at a LOS of A or B.

TxDOT specifically identifies the area in Gainesville as needing the most attention (at a LOS E), not only because of current traffic patterns, but also considering projected growth in Gainesville. With activity in the Industrial Park that will lead to economic growth for the community, truck traffic is going to increase to approximately 32,000 truck trips per year within the next couple years (construction is scheduled to begin on some projects as early as 2026).

And that's with one organization. Other companies are still "in progress" in their move into the Industrial Park.

According to TxDOT, "The current average daily traffic (ADT) along the US 82 corridor varies greatly, with a low of 1,400 vehicles per day (vpd) to a high of 59,000 vpd. Truck (CMV) traffic accounts for about 17 percent of all traffic along the US 82 corridor, with truck volumes ranging from 205 (2.6 percent) to 9,095 (41 percent) vpd. Traffic operations along the corridor are such that 99.5 percent of the total demand (vehicle-miles traveled) operates at Level of Service (LOS) B or higher along 99.8 percent of the corridor, with the area near the I-35 interchange experiencing the highest annual truck delay, although such delay is relatively moderate."

So while truck traffic isn't extremely high right now, that is projected to change in the near future. Now is the time to collaborate with TxDOT to alleviate congestion and control future growth.

The 3rd slide gives additional information about crashes on HWY 82 versus other major roads through our city. The crashes on 82 have data about CMVs, per public request.

The 4th slide is information about TxDOT's Open House about the 82 Relief Road. Per TxDOT, "The open house will be a 'come and go' style workshop with a presentation on repeat. We will also have the proposed alternatives printed out for the public to review and make comments on. There will be numerous members from TxDOT and affiliates to answer questions. The main purpose of the meeting is to provide the public an opportunity to be heard."

Did we hear you right, Gainesville? It’s time to double-check!

On Sept. 8, join us for Public Workshop #3 of the Guiding Gainesville 2040 master planning process.

We’ve gathered your input on growth, parks, downtown, and more. Now it’s your chance to make sure we understood you correctly.

✅ Did we hear you right?
✅ Are we on track?
✅ Does this reflect YOUR Gainesville?

Don’t miss this opportunity to confirm or course-correct our city’s future. City Council and City Staff will heavily rely on these plans over the next 15+ years, so let’s get it right together.

📍Did you know? 📍

There are a few maps circling around that claim to be about the current “82 Relief Route” conversation.

That is FALSE: There is no official map from TxDOT that shows the proposed route for the 82 Relief Route.

How do we know?

Because TxDOT told us that they don’t have a map ready to share with the public yet. TxDOT has had various versions of this conversation before, and we were assured that the current project is not reflected by any of the past maps. In fact, some of those maps are not even TxDOT maps.

We do not know WHO will be affected or HOW they will be affected beyond our own community. We know Gainesville will be impacted by the project, since the Relief Route would be to alleviate current and projected congestion within city limits. But we also encourage our neighbors and friends to attend the upcoming Open House to be part of the conversation with TxDOT. We want them to have our input so they can make decisions with our communities' input in mind.

We expect TxDOT to share a map at the August 28 meeting as part of the public meeting. And if we get any information before that, we will be sure to share with the community, as we have been doing.

If you cannot make the meeting on Aug 28, please submit your feedback via the (e)mail information below.
