VP Koung Tours Chinese Machinery Factories, Paving the Way for Liberia's Infrastructure Development
China, June 16,2025 - Vice President Jeremiah Koung is currently undertaking a significant visit to China, focused on securing vital machinery for Liberia's infrastructure development. His tour began with a visit to the Sany Heavy Machinery Factory in Changsha City, marking a crucial step towards the acquisition of 285 essential "yellow machines" for the nation.
During discussions with top executives at Sany, VP Koung emphasized the Boakai-Koung administration's unwavering commitment to delivering value for money. He highlighted the administration's ambitious agenda to implement transformative initiatives that will uplift Liberia and its people. Following the successful engagement in Changsha, the Vice President and his delegation embarked on a short two-hour flight to Jining City, Shandong Province.
In Jining City, VP Koung received a warm welcome from the President and executives of Shantui Construction Machinery Company LTD. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss potential collaborations, with VP Koung expressing Liberia's keen interest in forging a mutually beneficial partnership. Shantui executives reciprocated, expressing their eagerness to work with Liberia and contribute to its growth.
Shantui is a leading specialist in the assembly of bulldozers, coupled with a robust focus on research and development as well as the manufacturing of electronic automated machinery. The potential collaboration with Shantui holds immense promise for Liberia, offering the opportunity to acquire cutting-edge equipment and expertise for crucial infrastructure projects.
Following the factory visit, the Vice President and his delegation were honored with a banquet hosted by the Municipal Government of Jining City at the Sheng Du Hotel. This further strengthens diplomatic ties and underscores Liberia's dedication to fostering international collaboration.
VP Koung is accompanied on this important mission by key government officials, including Minister of Public Works Roland Giddings; Executive Director of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC), Bodger Scott Johnson; Deputy Director for Operations at the General Services Agency (GSA), Robert Wilson; and Assistant Minister for Budget at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Sarah Mulbah.
