Please be careful this year during your 4th of July celebrations!

With Independence Day right around the corner, the Galena Police Department would like to remind everyone that fireworks, such as bottle rockets, firecrackers, and cherry bombs are illegal in the State of Illinois. Only public displays are allowed, such as the City of Galena’s display shot off from Grant Park. People who are in possession of illegal fireworks could be charged with a class A misdemeanor which is punishable by a fine of up to $1500.

Novelty fireworks such as sparklers and snakes are legal, however extra caution should be used while lighting them due to their high temperatures.

Let’s make this Independence Day Celebration a safe and enjoyable for everyone!
