🍔 HAPPY LABOR DAY FROM BEARDED AND BLESSED! 🍔🇺🇸

What a day this was. We were so happy to be invited to Miss Rhonda’s 8th Annual Labor Day Event at MLK Park in Kalamazoo and we definitely didn’t come empty handed 😂 We rolled those two big griddles out of the trailer and got to work on 500 cheeseburgers. We brought 75 whole watermelons that we cut up and served right there at the park, tons of full size dill pickles, all the fixins for the burgers and enough food to keep us busy for a LONG time.

But we definitely weren’t doing this alone. Some amazing women came out with homemade desserts and other folks brought some awesome side dishes to go along with everything. And I have to say it... whoever made that mac and cheese, you absolutely knocked it out of the park 😂 That stuff was GOOD.

One thing I’ve really been thinking about lately is just how blessed we have been with the people who have started coming out and volunteering with us. It’s not just that they show up to help. It’s the amount of love they put into it. You can tell when somebody spent their own time at home cooking or baking something because they wanted the people we serve to have something special. That means the world to me.

Somewhere along the way this thing became bigger than a few guys showing up every week with some food and supplies. We built a village. A real one. People donating, cooking, baking, hauling stuff, setting up, serving, cleaning up, sharing our posts, watching our videos and just asking what they can do to help next. I don’t ever want to take that for granted.

So thank you Miss Rhonda for inviting us to be part of your Labor Day event and thank you to every single person who helped make this monster of a day happen. 500 cheeseburgers and 75 watermelons sounds crazy when I type it out 😂 but somehow this village just keeps finding a way to make these big days happen.

And before I finish this, please keep Joe, Miss Annie and Rod in your prayers. 🙏❤️ We are really hoping to have Joe back out there with us soon. It just isn’t the same without him and we miss having him beside us.

Happy Labor Day everybody. Thank you for believing in Bearded and Blessed, thank you for believing in this mission and most of all thank you for continuing to show love to the people we are blessed enough to serve every week.

This was one of those days that reminded me why we keep showing up.

We rolled into MLK Park with over 200 giant slices of pizza, whole dill pickles, and more than 250 Häagen-Dazs ice cream bars packed into our chest freezer. We had plenty of food, plenty of laughs, and a whole lot of people to share it with.

But the part of this day that stuck with me the most had nothing to do with what we brought.

A man named Derek walked up to me while we were serving.

Derek grew up just a couple blocks from where we now set up every week. Kalamazoo was home long before life took him thousands of miles away to the island where he and his family now live.

And somehow, from that far away, he found Bearded and Blessed.

He has been watching our videos, watching us serve people in the same community he grew up in, and sharing this mission with his family.

When Derek came back to town, he made time to come find us.

He walked up while he was on a video call with his wife, and then he handed me a donation that his family had put together. His mom, his sisters and the people he loves had all chipped in because they wanted to help us continue taking care of people back in the community that helped shape him.

That hit me pretty hard.

Sometimes when I'm sitting behind a computer editing these videos, it's easy to forget how far they travel once I hit that upload button.

Then someone like Derek walks up.

Suddenly there's a family thousands of miles away who knows our faces, knows our mission, cares about the people we serve and decided that they wanted to be part of it.

Derek, thank you.

Please tell your wife, your mom, your sisters and everyone who contributed how much that moment meant to me. You could have come home, handled whatever brought you here and gone about your business. Instead, you made finding us part of your trip.

I won't forget that.

And I owe you and your family an apology for how long it has taken me to get this video posted. I'm still a couple weeks behind on editing. We haven't stopped going out and serving, but the camera keeps moving faster than the guy sitting behind the computer trying to edit everything. 😂

I'm working on it, brother. Thank you for being patient with me. ❤️

I also want to talk about some people who probably won't ever ask me to talk about them.

Our new volunteers.

We've had some new faces standing beside us lately, and they have been absolutely incredible.

They don't show up wanting attention. They don't care if the camera catches them. They aren't asking for credit.

They just see something that needs done and do it.

They've even started bringing homemade desserts for the people we serve. Not because anyone asked them to. They just wanted to bring something extra that might make somebody's day a little better.

That's the kind of heart they've brought to this crew.

I'm genuinely grateful our paths crossed, and I really hope we're going to be seeing a lot more of them. When you see these folks in the video, please show them some love. I want them to know that this village appreciates them just as much as I do.

And while I have this village together, I need to ask you for something else.

🙏 Please continue praying for Miss Annie, Joe and Rod.

Those names aren't just names we throw into a post.

They're people we love.

Please keep them close in your thoughts and prayers. Send them some strength. Send them some encouragement. And if you're someone who believes in the power of prayer, please take a minute and say their names tonight.

We've watched this community surround people with love when they needed it most, and right now I'm asking you to do it again. ❤️

Days like this remind me that Bearded and Blessed has become something I never could have built by myself.

It's Derek and his family watching from thousands of miles away.

It's a new volunteer quietly showing up with a homemade dessert.

It's somebody donating a few dollars.

It's somebody sending a tent or sleeping bag.

It's somebody sharing a video.

It's somebody leaving an encouraging comment.

It's somebody praying for Miss Annie, Joe and Rod.

And it's every person who continues to believe that people going through hard times still deserve dignity, kindness, a good meal and something to smile about.

We know pizza, pickles and ice cream don't solve homelessness.

But that's not why we bring them.

We bring them because for a little while, somebody gets to eat something good.

They get to laugh.

They get to talk.

They get to be part of something.

And hopefully, when they walk away, they know there are still people in this world who care whether they're okay.

Nobody should feel forgotten.

Thank you for helping us remind people that they aren't. ❤️

🇺🇸 LABOR DAY COOKOUT AT MLK! 🍔🔥

Come join Bearded and Blessed as we celebrate Labor Day with our homeless brothers and sisters!

We’ll be out at MLK in Kalamazoo grilling up fresh burgers and spending the day with the community. Serving starts around 11:30 AM, and we’ll be here all day!

If you’re local and would like to lend a hand, come on down. We’d love to have you join us. And if you’re struggling, hungry, or could just use a good meal and some friendly faces, please come see us. There’s a burger right off the grill waiting for you. ❤️

This is what Bearded and Blessed is all about. Good food, good people, and a community that shows up for one another.

❤️ JUST A NORMAL TUESDAY FOR BEARDED AND BLESSED ❤️

This video is a little longer than most of the videos I post. We were out there for over three hours grilling brats, and there was just so much from this day that I didn't want to cut out.

We grilled 210 brats and brought another 100 hot dogs, assorted Pringles, and some amazing homemade mini cupcakes and a strawberry cream sheet cake made by Miss Cupcake. More than 300 meals on what, for us, was just another Tuesday spent with our homeless brothers and sisters.

But when I watched this video back, the food wasn't what stuck with me.

It was the people standing beside me.

We had some amazing help today, and I don't think people always realize what some of the folks on this crew are going through in their own lives. A lot of our volunteers are dealing with health problems themselves, me included. Yet every week they keep showing up. Sometimes I look around while we're serving and wonder how I got lucky enough to have these people standing beside me.

A lot of you know Rod and have been praying for him for a long time. Rod has been on hospice for so long that even his caretakers can't believe he is still here. They actually bring people to meet this man who has somehow continued to defy the odds.

I believe those prayers matter. Rod believes they matter too. And I'm incredibly thankful for every one of you who has prayed for my friend.

Right now, though, I need you to pour some of that same love into Miss Fish.

Miss Fish is the grandmother of Neveah, the amazing young lady who comes out with us and helps brighten the days of the people we serve.

Miss Fish is currently going through chemo and radiation.

And she's still coming out to serve with us.

What gets me the most is that while she's going through all of this, she's worried about whether she's going to be able to come out and help. She's worried about us when she's the one fighting a battle most of us can't even imagine.

That's Miss Fish.

So I'm asking our Bearded and Blessed family to surround this woman with everything you've got. Pray for her. Send her some love. Send some strength her way. Let her know that she doesn't have to carry this fight by herself.

Miss Fish, you've spent plenty of time worrying about all of us. It's our turn to worry about you. ❤️

And please don't stop praying for Joe either.

Joe has surgery coming up soon, and we're hoping and praying that he finally gets some answers. I know how badly he wants to be back out there with us. We miss him, the people we serve miss him, and there will always be a place waiting for him beside us.

I don't say this enough, but I love these people.

The people who stand shoulder to shoulder with me every week have become so much more than volunteers. They're my friends. They're my family. They inspire me.

Some of them are fighting battles that would make most people stay home, and somehow they're still asking, "What can I do to help?"

That says everything about who they are.

So when you watch this longer video, I hope you don't just see 210 brats cooking on a Blackstone or a bunch of meals being handed out.

Look at the people.

Look at the hearts behind it.

That's Bearded and Blessed.

We're not perfect. We're tired. Some of us hurt. Some of us are fighting some pretty serious battles. We don't have some giant organization behind us.

We just keep showing up for each other and for the people we love serving.

And somehow, every Tuesday, we get it done.

If you're the praying kind, please say one tonight for Miss Fish, Rod and Joe. And if you're not, just send them some love and good thoughts. I know they'll appreciate every bit of it.

🔧 WELL… APPARENTLY I NEED “CONTENT CREATING FOR DUMMIES” 😂

Hey Bearded and Blessed family! I owe you all a quick apology. The video I posted today decided it wanted to be a podcast instead of a video. 🤦‍♂️😂

For some reason, the audio uploaded perfectly, but the video did not. I’m currently trying to figure out exactly what went wrong and, as the picture suggests, my technical expertise currently consists mostly of staring at the computer, pushing buttons, drinking coffee, and hoping something starts working. 😂

All jokes aside, I’m working on it. I’m hoping this is something I can get figured out quickly so I can get the FULL VIDEO uploaded for everyone as soon as possible.

I really appreciate your patience and understanding. I’m still learning this whole content-creating world as I go, and every once in a while technology decides to remind me just how much I still have to learn. 🤣

⛈️ THE STORM CAME OUT OF NOWHERE… BUT SOMETHING AMAZING HAPPENED ❤️

We went out to do what we do every week: serve our homeless brothers and sisters. This time, we fired up the Blackstone and started grilling fresh brats. 🌭🔥

Then the sky opened up.

Heavy rain. Thunder. Lightning. A summer storm that wasn't supposed to be there.

But nobody quit.

Our new helpers stood right beside us, getting absolutely soaked while continuing to grill, prepare meals and serve. They could have packed up and headed for shelter. Instead, they dug in and kept going. ❤️

Then came the moment that made this day unforgettable.

When the homeless community we serve saw us struggling in the rain, THEY CAME TO HELP US.

They started grabbing tables, food, supplies and equipment and helped us move our entire setup underneath the trees.

We came out there to serve them...

and suddenly they were serving right beside us.

THAT is community. ❤️

There weren't two groups of people standing out there anymore. There were simply people helping people.

We were soaked.
The Blackstone was still sizzling. 🌭🔥
The food kept coming.
And the storm wasn't stopping us.

To our new helpers who stood with us through every drop of rain, THANK YOU.

To our homeless brothers and sisters who jumped in when they saw us struggling, THANK YOU.

And to every person following Bearded and Blessed, sharing our videos, commenting, donating and helping us continue this mission, YOU are part of this too.

What looked like it might become a disaster turned into one of those days we'll remember forever.

It's who stands beside you when it starts raining. ❤️

🍑❤️ HUNDREDS OF FRESH PEACHES FOR OUR HOMELESS COMMUNITY! ❤️🍑

This week Bearded and Blessed rolled out on a HOT summer day with hot dogs, ice-cold drinks, and HUNDREDS of fresh peaches for our homeless brothers and sisters! 🌭🥤🍑

And let me tell you... THE PEACHES WERE A HUGE HIT!

We have to give a VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO MISS KRISTIN for the incredible peaches. ❤️🍑 These beautiful peaches from The Peach Truck gave us an opportunity to bring something fresh, delicious, and completely unexpected to the people we serve.

Seeing the smiles as we started handing them out made the entire day worth it.

That's what this mission is about.

It's not just a hot dog.
It's not just a peach.
It's not just a cold bottle of water.

It's showing someone that they haven't been forgotten. ❤️

Week after week, our Bearded and Blessed village makes it possible for us to keep showing up. You guys have helped turn a small idea into something that is feeding and helping hundreds of people every week, and I don't ever want to lose sight of how incredible that is.

🔥🥶 TWO GROUPS. ONE MISSION. ONE BLAZING HOT DAY. AND A WHOLE LOT OF LOVE. ❤️

Today was special.

Bearded and Blessed rolled up with the outreach trailer loaded down, the pizza ready, and something a little different riding with us...

A FREEZER PACKED WITH ICE-COLD SQUENCHERS FREEZE POPS! 🥶🧊

If we're going to hand out popsicles on a blazing summer day, we're going to do it Bearded and Blessed style.

COLD means COLD. 😂🥶

But as awesome as it was rolling that freezer out, THAT wasn't what made today so special.

❤️ TODAY, WE HAD COMPANY.

We had the absolute pleasure of serving our homeless brothers and sisters alongside the amazing people from Lyfe Sacks of Hope.

Two groups.

Two stories.

ONE MISSION.

Show up for people who need somebody to show up.

🍕 Feed people.

🥶 Help them cool down.

🤝 Shake some hands.

😂 Share some laughs.

❤️ Treat people with dignity.

And most importantly...

REMIND PEOPLE THAT THEY MATTER.

Because when you're living outside during the hottest days of summer, something as simple as an ice-cold drink, a frozen Squencher, a meal and somebody taking the time to ask how you're doing can mean more than we sometimes realize.

We know what we're doing isn't going to solve homelessness overnight.

A slice of pizza won't put a roof over someone's head.

A popsicle won't erase the struggles they're facing.

But making someone's TODAY a little better?

Making sure somebody eats?

Helping somebody cool down?

Giving somebody a few minutes where they can smile, laugh and simply feel like part of the community again?

THAT IS ABSOLUTELY IN OUR WHEELHOUSE. ❤️

And next week?

WE'LL SHOW UP AGAIN.
