As summer winds down, hunters across Ohio are preparing for the start of fall hunting seasons. According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife, early September brings the opening days for squirrel, dove, Canada geese, teal, and more. Later in the month, bowhunters will get their turn with the beginning of white-tailed deer archery season.

Long before Google, long before printed automobile maps and guides, travelers would use gazetteers and books to inform their journeys.

This was true in pre-Civil War Ohio, a place not too long removed from being inhabited by Native Americans and, later, pioneers. In this corner of Ohio, that was certainly the case.

As fall sports get underway, the Avita Center for Sports Health is once again opening its doors to student athletes in need of quick attention for sports-related injuries. Known as “Bump Clinics,” these weekly sessions provide a way for players to be evaluated and treated by board-certified sports medicine specialists without the long wait times that can come with regular appointments.

Avita’s fall clinics will run now through October.
